According to Mr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, the integration is not only an administrative convenience, but also creates a safe and legal electronic identification and authentication mechanism for all medical records, and is also a step towards implementing national Electronic Health Records (EMR).

According to Mr. Co, in this way, Bach Mai is creating standardized data, ready for the connection and exchange of medical examination and treatment data between medical facilities in the country. Thereby, patients receive utilities such as quick registration and payment, and cashless payment services extended to hospital beds.

For hospitals, the implementation of a paperless, intelligent management system helps automate and manage the entire administrative, nursing, medication, and testing processes more effectively. Recently, thanks to the conversion from paper medical records to electronic medical records, Bach Mai has saved up to 100 billion VND/year.

According to Mr. Tran Quy Tuong, former Director of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Health , as of October 3, 881/1,645 hospitals nationwide had deployed electronic medical records before October 2, 2025, reaching 53.6% of the target assigned by the Prime Minister. Of which, 27/45 hospitals were under the Ministry of Health, reaching a rate of 60%.

Mr. Tuong said that paper medical records are bulky, easily damaged, difficult to store long-term, and difficult to share between medical facilities.

Meanwhile, electronic medical records have many outstanding benefits: patients do not have to carry a lot of documents when going to see a doctor; waiting time is saved thanks to the registration and payment functions; medical history information and test results are stored and can be shared between medical facilities if the patient has to be transferred... Thereby contributing to improving treatment effectiveness, limiting errors in prescription and medication use.

Mr. Tuong also assessed that the implementation of electronic medical records by the health system in general will help management agencies have a source of data on people's health status and medical examination and treatment activities of medical facilities.
