Secretary Tran Luu Quang: Ho Chi Minh City will not continue to rearrange wards and communes

Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang said there will be no further arrangement or merger of wards and communes in Ho Chi Minh City.

On October 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a conference to review the implementation of Resolution 18 of the 12th Party Central Committee on a number of issues to continue innovating and streamlining the political system's apparatus to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently.

At the conference, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang informed about whether or not to continue merging wards and communes in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Quang, recently there was information that Ho Chi Minh City still has 48 wards and 4 communes that do not meet the required area requirements and must continue to be rearranged.

However, Mr. Quang said that previously, Ho Chi Minh City leaders had carefully considered and examined the criteria when arranging wards and communes.

Ho Chi Minh City has the characteristics of limited land and a large population, so the area criteria in some specific areas certainly cannot be met. However, the city has considered many principles and criteria in the overall arrangement.

The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that in the next few years, Ho Chi Minh City will not reorganize wards and communes, but will focus on consolidating and improving the quality of operations of the existing apparatus. Therefore, Mr. Quang requested that cadres and civil servants of wards and communes focus on their work.

After the arrangement and organization of two-level local government, Ho Chi Minh City currently has 168 wards, communes, and special zones.

Among them, there are some wards such as: Chanh Hung, Thanh My Tay, Tay Thanh, Binh Loi Trung, An Hoi Tay, Hanh Thong, Binh Thanh, An Hoi Dong, Thong Tay Hoi, Saigon, Cau Ong Lanh, Dien Hong, Ben Thanh, Binh Tien, Phu Nhuan, Phu Tho , Duc Nhuan, Gia Dinh... that do not meet the area requirements but have population characteristics.
