Ukrinform reported on December 2 that the Ukrainian border guards said the blockade in the border area with Poland is still happening.

“Unfortunately, the blockade continues… As of the morning of December 2, reports we received from our Polish colleagues indicate that about 2,400 trucks are queuing to cross into Ukraine from Poland in all four directions. Most of them are near the Shehyni and Rava-Ruska checkpoints,” said Andrii Demchenko, a spokesman for the force.

The protesters began their indefinite protest on November 6. Among their main demands is the return of licenses to Ukrainian firms, which were revoked under the deal with the European Union (EU) until June next year. The protesters want the deal to be terminated and the licensing regime restored from January 1.

On 23 November, Polish farmers joined the local transporters' protest and, making their demands known, began blocking traffic at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint near Przemysl.

Last week, Ukrainian officials said the two sides had yet to reach an agreement to end a protest by Polish truck drivers.

In addition, the infrastructure ministers of Poland and Ukraine and EU representatives have not been able to reach any agreement after many rounds of negotiations to resolve the issue.

The association of road transport operators from several Central European countries has asked the European Commission (EC) to end the exemption for Ukrainian transporters when Ukrainian trucks enter the EU. Previously, Ukrainian truck drivers needed a permit to enter the EU. However, that obligation was abolished after the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Central European transporters, this damages the competitiveness of road transport operators in EU member states.
