Sea of ​​clouds 'out of this world' in Ta Xua

Photographer Andy Trung conquered the Ta Xua peak, nearly 2,900 m high, where he had a rare experience, standing in the middle of a dense sea of ​​clouds and a brilliant starry sky as if "floating in the universe".

Clouds floating "in space"

Tran Van Trung (Andy Trung), 29, is a freelance photographer living in Hai Phong. He and a few friends who love trekking went on a cloud hunting trip to Ta Xua (Son La province). Trung chose a climbing point of about 2,865 m, deserted and wild but with an "extremely overwhelming" view. Before the trip, he carefully researched the weather, humidity and temperature difference between day and night - factors that determine the formation of a sea of ​​clouds. He also waited for a clear time to have the opportunity to capture the starry sky. From Tram Tau center, Trung's group traveled by motorbike to the parking spot, then continued their journey through the forest and mountain roads to reach the top. The route is little known, not on the popular tourist routes. "The moment I stood on the top of Ta Xua, I felt like I stepped out of Earth. Everything below was submerged in a sea of ​​thick clouds, while above was a deep blue-black sky, without a single cloud covering it. That moment really felt like I was floating in space," he said.

Rare "Combo"

Trung has been to Ta Xua several times, but this is the first time he has encountered thick clouds and a starry night sky. During the day, Ta Xua is full of life with gentle sunshine and rolling clouds, but at night it brings a quiet, chilly feeling, with only the sound of the wind whistling and leaves hitting each other in the resting hut. Compared to other cloud hunting spots, Ta Xua is considered 'difficult'. The terrain is high, the climbing path is deserted, but because of that, the landscape is pristine, the cloud layer is rich and the view is very wide. According to the photographer, the best time to hunt for clouds is from late autumn to spring, and in summer it is easy to have clear skies to take pictures of stars. Visitors need to carefully check the weather forecast, avoid rainy days, and practice in advance to get used to climbing for long days. In addition, each person needs to bring enough drinking water, flashlights and warm gear because the temperature at night on the mountain top drops very low. Ultimately, the most important thing is to respect nature, leave nothing but footprints and bring back truly memorable experiences amidst majestic mountains.
