Mr Netanyahu's cabinet has faced widespread criticism over security failures during a Hamas offensive into southern Israel that left 1,200 people dead and more than 250 taken hostage in Gaza.
Protesters carried many banners and chanted slogans demanding that Prime Minister Netanyahu and his cabinet immediately resign, paving the way for holding general elections and forming a new government capable of reaching a hostage exchange agreement with Hamas.
On this occasion, opposition leaders also made many statements with strong offensive content aimed at Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has vowed to destroy Hamas and bring all hostages home. However, these goals are now difficult to achieve because Hamas, despite suffering heavy losses, has not been completely destroyed.
At a press conference in Jerusalem, Mr Netanyahu said he was confident a solution would be found. He also said that holding an election at the height of the war would paralyse the country for months.
In Tel Aviv, some families of hostages and their supporters blocked a major highway to protest what they described as Mr. Netanyahu's ineffective attempts to save their loved ones.
