Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên23/11/2024

Vietnamese fashion is constantly integrating and internationalizing. On the one hand, designers seek to convey traditional cultural materials to costumes to introduce their homeland and regions. On the other hand, they use foreign materials to find the most harmonious cultural intersection in each product. That leads to interesting and varied creations, such as Vietnamese traditional costumes or Vietnamese costumes inspired by ancient Japanese Obi brocade that designer Cao Minh Tien has just introduced.

Combining Japanese brocade and Vietnamese traditional costumes, fashion fans are delighted

With its unique structure imbued with Japanese culture, Obi brocade is a difficult material to apply to ancient Vietnamese costumes. However, in his latest collection, Cao Minh Tien has cleverly combined this brocade with traditional Vietnamese materials such as silk and silkworm silk, creating designs that are both imbued with national identity and international spirit.

According to the designer, each piece of brocade he has put his heart into is unique and handcrafted, requiring sophistication in the way it is handled. "Combining Japanese brocade with traditional Vietnamese colors and materials is not only a creative problem but also a way for me to tell the story of the intersection between two cultures," said Cao Minh Tien.

Cultural connection and harmony

Using foreign materials such as Japanese brocade not only brings newness to the design but is also a way for Cao Minh Tien to expand the market and affirm the position of Vietnamese fashion on the international map. These products are not only highly applicable but also contain cultural values, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam to the world .

Designer Cao Minh Tien shared: "I always want Vietnamese fashion to not only preserve its traditional beauty but also be able to integrate internationally. The combination of Japanese brocade and Vietnamese traditional costumes is a way for us to tell our cultural story in the most creative and modern way."

Japanese Obi brocade is a type of fabric used to make obi (a type of sash worn with traditional clothing). Japanese Obi brocade has many types such as: chirimen (crepe fabric with colorful floral patterns); black and gold brocade (a flower-shaped design); gold brocade (elegant woven pattern of fans and flowers); Noshi band (woven into the fabric); fan, bird and flower motifs (woven into the fabric)...

The formality of an Obi is determined by its design, material, and use. Heavy brocade obi are usually worn on formal occasions or designs, while lighter silk obi are worn on casual occasions or designs.

Sharing the same view, designer Pham Ngoc Anh said that she often travels abroad to find materials for production. She said: "Many of my European customers are very happy to come to Vietnam to travel , play, and buy things and see lace and tassel accessories (very famous from Turkey) on the innovative ao dai designs that I introduce. Many people do not think that a small Asian market like Vietnam can update such raw materials."

Ms. Pham Ngoc Anh also said that many long-time fabric suppliers for the world's major fashion brands such as Chanel or Louisvuitton... still prioritize a certain amount of fabric for her when they need to make products. In addition, to renew La Pham's main designs such as ao dai, Ms. Ngoc Anh and her colleagues often go to Sham Shui Po accessories market (Hong Kong) to find and buy trend-updating materials.

Türkiye is famous for its handmade fashion products and unique materials such as beautiful and versatile tassels, lace, and chiffon.

The approach of designers Cao Minh Tien and Pham Ngoc Anh has helped attract the attention of international customers, contributing to better integration of Vietnamese fashion. Not only creating beautiful collections, they also introduce Vietnamese costumes in a new way and create meaningful stories of cultural exchange.
