Ca Mau spends more than 940 billion to implement the project of teaching 2 sessions/day and boarding

On September 3, according to information from the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just signed a decision approving the Project on Organizing 2 sessions/day, boarding for public preschool and general education levels in Ca Mau province according to the request of the Director of the Department of Education and Training in the report No. 3168 dated August 13.

Ca Mau province currently has 512/520 public kindergartens and primary schools teaching 2 sessions/day, reaching a rate of nearly 98.5% (196 kindergartens/196 schools; 316/324 primary schools). The total number of public kindergartens and primary schools organizing boarding is 232/520 schools, reaching a rate of over 44.6% (189/196 kindergartens; 43/324 primary schools).

The total number of public secondary and high schools organizing two sessions per day is 88/226 schools, reaching a rate of nearly 39% (56/174 secondary schools; 32/52 high schools).

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau, to ensure the basic organization of teaching 2 sessions/day, it is necessary to build 126 additional classrooms at the preschool and primary levels (55 classrooms for preschool, 71 classrooms for primary). The secondary level needs to add 519 classrooms (not including 74 semi-permanent classrooms, 23 temporary classrooms). The high school level needs to add 462 classrooms (not including 42 semi-permanent classrooms, 3 temporary classrooms).

To implement the kindergarten boarding system, there is a lack of 127 bedrooms, 5 kitchens, and 31 kitchen storages. For the primary level, it is necessary to build 237 bedrooms, 88 kitchens, and 88 kitchen storages. Because if the boarding system is not organized for 2 sessions/day, parents will have many difficulties in picking up and dropping off their children (4 times/day), affecting the activities and lives of parents.

Currently, 100% of kindergartens in Ca Mau have organized 2 sessions/day.

Regarding the teaching staff, to implement teaching 2 sessions/day, the whole sector needs 1,053 more teachers at the Preschool and Primary levels (685 Preschool teachers, 368 Primary teachers). Secondary level is still short of 924 teachers (298 Secondary school teachers; 626 High school teachers).

The project also specifies investment items for building facilities, purchasing equipment for all levels of education; solutions for arranging schools and classes; and arranging teachers to meet the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day and boarding for public preschool and secondary schools in the province.

At the same time, develop a program and content for teaching 2 sessions/day for all levels; a specific roadmap for implementing 2 sessions/day teaching, boarding schools and how to organize and implement it.

The project requires organizing and arranging the content of the 2-session/day teaching program in a scientific and flexible manner.

According to calculations, the total cost of implementing the Project is over 942 billion VND, including state budget capital; other legal revenue sources and social mobilization sources (if any). In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau will propose to integrate it into the National Target Programs.

“Organizing 2 sessions/day, boarding in public kindergartens and primary schools aims to contribute to improving the quality of comprehensive education , reducing the burden of extra classes, especially for children/students in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, creating a solid foundation for the implementation of the Preschool Education Program, the 2018 General Education Program and building friendly, happy and modern schools”, informed a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau.
