In addition to the port, the project also aims to build complexes serving exploitation management, squares, bus terminals and ferry parking lots. Saigon Port plans to complete the project between 2025 and 2027, with a financial structure including 30% equity and 70% loans from commercial banks and other legal capital sources.
Saigon Port affirmed that this project is completely consistent with the city and Government's orientation on moving cargo ports out of the center, converting the function of Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port area into a port serving international passengers. Mr. Nguyen Le Chon Tam, General Director of Saigon Port, believes that with this proposal, Saigon Port is dedicated to preserving its heritage of more than 160 years, while developing a center serving domestic and foreign cruise tourists, contributing to the tourism economy of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the Southern region in general. It is known that Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port has currently welcomed many large international cruise ships, such as the 210m-long Seabourn Encore with more than 1,000 passengers, the Azamara Onward with 400 crew members and more than 600 passengers, and the Silversea Cruises with 290 crew members and 300 passengers. According to the planning of sea passengers to Ho Chi Minh City seaports in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, it is expected that about 101,500 passengers will arrive at the port in the Saigon River area, including 81,200 international passengers. The Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port project not only serves international passengers but also aims to exploit domestic transport services, especially riverside tourist routes and high-speed boats connecting to Vung Tau and Con Dao. Regarding business activities, in the first half of 2024, Saigon Port recorded revenue of VND 568.53 billion, an increase of 29.3% over the same period, and profit after tax of VND 121.08 billion. In terms of asset size, as of June 30, 2024, Saigon Port's total assets continued to increase slightly by 2.3% compared to the beginning of the year, equivalent to an increase of VND 122.7 billion, to VND 5,489.3 billion.
