Nearly 96,000 candidates took the 10th grade exam at 158 ​​exam locations (147 regular exam locations and 11 specialized exam locations), with 4,102 exam rooms. Of which, 88,237 candidates registered for regular 10th grade and about 8,000 candidates took the exam for specialized and integrated 10th grade.

Mobilize teachers to help write exams for candidates

Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that yesterday, June 5, after the candidates went to the test sites to complete the exam procedures and declare personal information, there were 9 candidates who needed support and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City deployed a plan to arrange for teachers to write the exam papers for the candidates. These were cases of candidates at the test sites of Thu Duc City, Districts 3, 10, 12, Go Vap, Hoc Mon District, Binh Chanh... who had accidents, and deaf candidates who needed support while taking the exam.

Specifically, 8 candidates had accidents in recent days such as right hand injury, calf tendon surgery, wrist fracture... requiring exam invigilators to write their exam papers and a deaf candidate needed assistance carrying a hearing aid into the exam room.

Mr. Ho Tan Minh informed that the Department of Education and Training arranged for the exam supervisors to help write the exam papers for the above candidates, who are high school teachers and not specialized in teaching the exam subjects.

The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7 with the subjects of literature, foreign language, math (if applying for regular 10th grade) and specialized and integrated subjects (if applying for specialized and integrated 10th grade).

THE "COMPETITION" RATIO OF MANY SPECIALIZED SCHOOLS IS FIERCELY COMPETITIVE

Meanwhile, students in many localities have completed their 10th grade entrance exams and are anxiously waiting for the announcement of exam scores and benchmark scores.

From June 2 to 5, in many localities in the northern region, the entrance exam for grade 10 of the 2023-2024 school year took place, such as Hung Yen, Bac Giang , Lao Cai, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Phu Tho, Nghe An... In general, most provinces and cities have pushed the entrance exam for grade 10 this year at least 1 week earlier than last year.

In addition, candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam at specialized high schools affiliated with universities have completed their exam, such as High Schools for Natural Sciences , High Schools for Foreign Languages, High Schools for Social Sciences and Humanities; candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam at specialized high schools of Pedagogical Universities have also finished their 10th grade exam.

This year, the "competition" rate of these schools continues to be fiercely competitive. There are specialized subjects where a candidate must compete with dozens of other students to win a place in the school.

Some localities have adjusted their admission plans to reduce pressure on candidates. A typical example is Nghe An province, the first locality in the country to allow students to change their preferences after completing the exam. After taking the exam, based on their own assessment of their test results, students can change their preferences to ensure the highest chance of admission. Meanwhile, in recent years, Hanoi has removed the regulation allowing students to change their registration preferences after knowing the "competition" rate for each school. This makes students and parents have to consider when deciding on their preferences, and many students regret when they have high exam scores but choose to go to schools with low admission scores.

The Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh province said that this year's exam has some new points to suit the practical situation and meet the needs of students. One of the new points is that each candidate can register for 2 wishes to 2 high schools in the same area. Candidates registering for Bac Ninh Specialized High School can register for 3 wishes. Of which, 1 wish to Bac Ninh Specialized School and 2 wishes to 2 high schools in the same area. Based on the candidates' exam scores, the Department of Education and Training will consider 95% of the number of candidates admitted to the first wish according to the assigned quota.

Regarding the reflection on the situation of forcing students not to take the 10th grade entrance exam, after Hanoi, the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Phuc also issued a document requesting the Departments of Education and Training to take measures to overcome and handle educational institutions that hinder, cause difficulties or force students not to register for the 10th grade entrance exam as desired.

Although the level of competition varies, in many localities, the 10th grade entrance exam is considered the most stressful exam, especially in localities where the number of public high schools does not meet demand.
