Tourists feed fish with synthetic food - Photo: cut from clip

On April 28, Nha Trang Bay Management Board issued a notice advising tourists not to use bread crumbs or instant noodles to attract fish when diving in the Hon Mun area.

According to Nha Trang Bay Management Board, a clip appeared on social networks introducing diving services and taking photos with fish in the strictly protected area of Hon Mun.

In these clips, tour guides introduce diving services, take photos with fish and use synthetic foods from outside such as bread and instant noodles to feed the fish.

Nha Trang Bay Management Board believes that this is an act that causes an imbalance in the ecosystem. Leftover bread crumbs and instant noodles will pollute the water source in Nha Trang Bay.

Fish species such as butterfly fish and damselfish are reef-dwelling creatures whose main food is seaweed and algae on coral, helping coral photosynthesize and grow.

Using the method of luring creatures to depend on food from humans, causing them to lose their instincts and habits in hunting, causing ecological imbalance, directly affecting coral reefs.

"While the community, society and government are actively taking actions to restore the coral reef ecosystem in Nha Trang Bay, a small number of tour guides are taking actions that lack understanding and professionalism," the announcement stated.

Nha Trang Bay Management Board recommends that when bringing tourists to Hon Mun, travel companies do not organize activities to attract fish schools or feed fish with synthetic food.

At the same time, raise awareness among tourists when visiting Hon Mun, comply with regulations on environmental protection, and ensure ecological balance in Nha Trang Bay.
