According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 8:00 a.m. on August 23 to 8:00 a.m. on August 24, in the mountainous provinces of the North, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, there was moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain such as: Tan Lap 1 (Ha Giang) 174.6 mm; Can Yen 2 (Cao Bang) 152 mm, Cam Son (Lang Son) 144 mm, Tan Phuong 1 ( Yen Bai ) 121 mm, Ky Tan (Thanh Hoa) 127 mm... there is a risk of landslides and flash floods.

The meteorological agency said that currently, soil moisture in some areas of the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang , Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa is nearly saturated (over 90%) or already saturated.

In the next 6 hours, in the above provinces, there will continue to be rain with accumulated rainfall from 30 - 60 mm, in some places over 100 mm, so there is a high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities.

2 people died, 1 person was injured due to natural disasters

On the same morning, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said that heavy rain and landslides on August 22-23 in the provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Ben Tre and Thu Duc City (HCMC) caused damage to people and property.

Accordingly, there were 2 deaths (Ben Tre 1, Ho Chi Minh City 1); 1 injured person (Ha Giang); 145 houses collapsed and damaged; 79 hectares of rice and crops were damaged (Ha Giang 5 hectares, Cao Bang 74 hectares); 3 schools, 1 village cultural house were eroded; 50 meters of irrigation canal were eroded; 7 traffic routes had their slopes eroded, soil buried the road surface, and have now been cleared.
