Specifically, the letter Elon Musk sent to employees has the following content:
" Over the past few years, we have grown rapidly with multiple factories expanding globally.
With this rapid growth, there has been duplication of roles and job functions in certain areas. As we prepare the company for the next phase of growth, it is extremely important to consider every aspect to reduce costs and increase productivity.
As part of this effort, we undertook a thorough review of the organization and made the difficult decision to reduce our global headcount by more than 10%. This was something I hated doing, but it had to be done. This will allow us to be leaner, more innovative, and more ambitious for the next phase.
I want to thank everyone who is leaving Tesla for their hard work over the past few days. I am incredibly grateful for your contributions to our mission and we wish you all the best in your future opportunities. It is always difficult to say goodbye.
To the rest of you, I thank you in advance for the hard work that lies ahead. We are developing some revolutionary technologies in cars, energy and artificial intelligence. As we prepare the company for the next phase of its growth, your commitment will make a big difference.
Thank.
Elon."
