Race to save the life of a man run over by a truck

(Dan Tri) - A man was run over by a truck, causing internal injuries. He was transferred to People's Hospital 115 in critical condition, suffering from blood loss shock.

On August 4, Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Head of the General Surgery Department, People's Hospital 115 (HCMC) said that this unit had just successfully revived a patient who had been run over by a truck.

Before that, he had an accident in Can Giuoc area (formerly Long An province, now Tay Ninh province), and was transferred to People's Hospital 115 in very critical condition.

The accident left the man's left abdomen severely injured with a large open wound of about 10x10cm, exposing many crushed organs, and a part of his spleen was severed outside the abdomen. In addition, he was also in a life-threatening state of hemorrhagic shock.

The man was taken into emergency surgery immediately upon being transferred to People's Hospital 115 (Photo: BV).

Upon admission, the Emergency Department immediately activated the hospital's red alert procedure and immediately transferred the patient to the emergency operating room. The surgery lasted nearly 4 hours with the participation of doctors from many specialties.

The patient had his left pleura drained, his diaphragm stitched, the remaining spleen removed, and his severely crushed left kidney. He was also transfused with more than 3 liters of blood and related products.

"After nearly 10 days of intensive treatment, the patient has overcome the critical stage, gradually recovered and was discharged from the hospital. However, due to the loss of his spleen and one kidney, he needs long-term periodic health monitoring at home to prevent complications and advice on daily activities and work," Dr. Huy shared.
