A four-story bar on Van Cao Street, Ngo Quyen District, caught fire, trapping three female employees and killing them.
At around 2:00 p.m. on May 12, the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the 90 square meter, 4-story bar at 144 Van Cao, Dang Giang ward, Ngo Quyen district.
Because the bar was designed as a closed tube house with only one front door, the fire was very strong, deforming the first floor rolling door. Smoke engulfed 3-4 shops next door, people hurriedly evacuated their goods.
At the time of the fire, there were no customers in the restaurant, only four female employees. All of them climbed to the fourth floor balcony to call for help. A 21-year-old girl was rescued, the other three people fell off an obstacle and had to go back inside.
Seven fire trucks and dozens of firefighters sprayed water continuously from the front of the house. An ambulance stood by outside. Van Cao Street was blocked off to assist with the fire.
By 3:30 p.m., the fire was basically under control. Masked police took turns going inside to search for trapped people. The bar owner and the victim's family gathered around waiting for news.
At 6:30 p.m., the bodies of three women aged 18 to 21, from Hai Phong City, were taken out. Fire trucks and ambulances withdrew from the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The burnt bar is located on a central street of Hai Phong city, with many restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, and many Koreans living there.
