After graduating from the Army Officer School 2, Nguyen Hong Hai was assigned to work at the Military Command of Con Dao District (now Con Dao Special Zone). In 2020, he was sent to study to transfer political cadres, then developed and was appointed Political Commissar of Company 2. With the belief that political cadres must be close, friendly, and exemplary to the collective, Political Commissar Nguyen Hong Hai actively and voluntarily studied and researched resolutions, directives, and documents guiding Party and political activities; enhanced the dissemination of policies and laws to all cadres and soldiers in the unit through propaganda, education, political and spiritual cultural days, law days... He himself constantly strives to cultivate and practice moral qualities, lifestyle and sense of organization and discipline, setting an example for soldiers.

Major Nguyen Hong Hai talked closely and understood the soldiers' mental situation.

To grasp the thoughts and aspirations of soldiers and promptly resolve arising issues, Major Nguyen Hong Hai proactively proposed that the Party Committee and Party cell implement the model of "Teammates helping each other to progress", selecting agile soldiers with good working capacity, strict discipline to accompany comrades who often violate shortcomings, have low learning results, and lack harmony in the group. After only a short time, these "couples" have made remarkable progress, contributing to improving the quality of training and practice of the unit; at the same time, strengthening solidarity and cohesion in the group.

Having a talent for Union activities and youth movements, Political Commissar Nguyen Hong Hai confidently guides Union cadres to innovate the content and form of activities during holidays and breaks; improve and apply many games on television that are close to the unit's characteristics, creating attraction and novelty, attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate. He also actively contacts the local youth union to coordinate in organizing exchange activities and volunteer programs to educate the revolutionary tradition of Con Dao land and the morality of "remembering the source when drinking water" for the youth.

With a spirit of creativity and eagerness to learn, Major Nguyen Hong Hai regularly participates in competitions to learn about history, tradition, and law organized by superiors and annual competitions to improve models and teaching aids. In those competitions, he always won high prizes and was commended by his superiors.
