The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 4:00 p.m. today, September 7, storm Yagi (storm number 3) was on land in Quang Ninh - Hai Phong . The strongest wind near the storm center is level 12, gusting to level 16.

In the next 3 hours, the storm will move west at a speed of about 20 km and go deep into the northeastern provinces, including Hanoi .

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that this storm has a very wide circulation, so as soon as it made landfall, its circulation affected the entire North and Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.

“In fact, the center of storm Yagi is still 200 km away from Hanoi, but we can still feel the strong storm winds. We have recorded average winds in the capital from 5-7 m/s, gusts up to 14 m/s (equivalent to level 7 gusts). This wind force can completely uproot trees, blow away corrugated iron roofs and billboards,” Mr. Huong said.

Mr. Huong warned that from tonight and tonight, the eye of the storm will move closer to Hanoi, so the storm winds here will be stronger. The storm wind can reach level 6 - level 7, gusting to level 9 - level 10.

“This is a very strong wind, rarely seen in the North recently. The strong wind will last for at least 12 more hours, people should not go out unless necessary. In addition to strong winds, Hanoi also has to face heavy rain. It is likely that this area will return to normal by dawn on September 8,” Mr. Huong added.

On September 7, before Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3) made landfall, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh advised people in the city not to leave their homes to avoid risks and human losses.

The head of the Hanoi People's Committee has requested departments, branches, sectors and localities to focus on implementing drastic, timely and effective measures to prevent and respond to rain, storms, floods and natural disasters with the spirit of proactive prevention and response at the highest level to ensure the safety of lives, especially children and vulnerable groups, and to minimize damage to people's and state's property.
