This is also the first official visit of the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly to Malaysia after the two countries officially upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (November 2024). The visit takes place in the context of the Vietnam - Malaysia relationship being at a particularly good stage with high political trust, close economic and investment cooperation, and close people-to-people exchanges.
Malaysia is currently Vietnam's third largest trading partner in ASEAN and Vietnam's ninth largest trading partner in the world, with a total two-way trade turnover of 14.2 billion USD in 2024, an increase of 12% compared to 2023. It is expected that during the visit, the National Assembly Chairman will have talks and meetings with senior leaders of Malaysia.
On the afternoon of September 16 local time, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife met with officials, staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
