At the end of July, the circulation of storm No. 3 caused heavy damage to the mountainous commune of Luong Minh, especially the suspension bridge of Xop Mat village was seriously damaged, cutting off the main road connecting the inner villages with the commune center. This turned the journey to school of hundreds of students into a dangerous "flood crossing".
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune, said that on September 4, going to school for students from Cham Puong, Minh Thanh, Minh Tien, Dua, La, Xop Mat, Minh Phuong, Coi villages... became extremely difficult.

To ensure safety and not interrupt learning, the Commune People's Committee promptly equipped the children with life jackets, life belts, warning whistles and mobilized two boats to pick up and drop off the children.
Every day, hundreds of students, teachers and parents have to cross the river. A boat can only carry 10-15 students and takes about 15 minutes. To get all the students across the river, dozens of trips are needed from early morning, posing many risks.
Not only students, more than 30 primary and secondary school teachers in this locality also had to cross the river and continue traveling by motorbike or car to the school.
On rainy and windy days, the water is strong and the journey becomes more dangerous, directly affecting teaching and learning. Parents not only worry about the safety of their children but also have to help transport them from the boat dock to school.

Despite facing many hardships, it is admirable that not a single student dropped out of school. All of them have the desire to go to class, learn, and nurture the dream of escaping poverty in the highlands of Nghe An.
On the first school day after the flood on September 3, all government forces, police, military , militia, grassroots security team, party secretary and village chief were present at the boat dock to support.
The commune government even mobilized private vehicles, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee used their family cars to take students to school. These simple images have increased confidence and somewhat dispelled the worries of parents.
According to the plan, primary school students will be taken across the river from 6:30 a.m. with about 7 boat trips, while secondary school students will start from 6:45 a.m. with nearly 20 trips.

To reduce the pressure, the commune hired additional service vehicles, mobilized parents, militia and youth union members to take part in the pick-up and drop-off. The commune police ensured security and order, the commune Military Command was responsible for driving the boats and the school managed the students at the school.
“In that situation, the commune has established working groups to take students across the river by temporary boats, ensuring that they do not miss out on school. In the long term, the commune is planning to open a new road and coordinate with superiors to soon rebuild the community bridge,” Mr. Hoa shared.
