Unprecedented, the world's best durian is cheaper than regular goods

For durian lovers, Musang King is a very familiar name. For nearly ten years now, this most delicious durian in the world has been sold quite a lot in the Vietnamese market. When it first appeared, frozen Musang King durian rice cost 1.4-1.8 million VND/kg, 4-5 times more expensive than other Vietnamese durian rice.

After that, the price of this king durian rice cooled down, down to around 1 million VND/kg depending on the time.

In recent years, in addition to frozen Musang King durian imported from Malaysia, the market also has whole Musang King durian grown in our country.

To buy the whole ripe fallen durian from Vietnam at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, consumers have to spend 800,000-900,000 VND per kilogram. That is, for 1 ripe fallen Musang King durian, the buyer has to spend from 1.6-3.5 million VND - the most expensive price compared to durian varieties grown in our country.

Not to mention, Musang King durian is rare, if you want to eat it you have to order a week or half a month in advance.

Musang King durian is for sale at a cheap price

But now, the world's best durian is being sold in large quantities. Notably, in stores and online markets, the price of Musang King durian is no longer as expensive as before.

Instead, the dealers are selling the whole fruit for only 99,000-160,000 VND/kg, cheaper than the two popular durian varieties Ri6 and Monthong.

Holding in her hand a 5-segment Musang King durian that she had just bought at a store near her house, Ms. Dam Thi Loan in Doi Can (Ba Dinh, Hanoi ) said: "This is truly an unprecedented story, the best durian in the world but the price is cheaper than ordinary products."

Ms. Loan's family has 3/5 members who are durian lovers. However, up to now, she only dared to buy Ri6 or Monthong durian to eat because it is affordable. She has seen Musang King durian many times, but she did not dare to buy it to eat because it is too expensive.

Now the store sells it for only 150,000 VND/kg, cheaper than the price of Monthong durian - 170,000 VND/kg. Therefore, she decided to buy 2 fruits so that her family could enjoy the best taste of durian in the world.

Continuously selling Musang King durian in recent days for only 155,000 VND/kg, Ms. Ngo Thi Anh - owner of a fruit shop in Thanh Xuan (Hanoi) - admitted that the price of this durian is cheaper than ever.

Do you remember this time last year, she imported Musang King durian to sell at 455,000 VND/kg for size 1-2.5 kg/fruit. In the second half of July, the fruit was still the same size but the price was only 120,000 VND/kg. In the two recent shipments, the fruit quality was better so the store listed it at 155,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, both Ri6 and Monthong durians cost 170,000 VND/kg.

Many gardeners grow the world's best durian, so the supply is increasingly abundant.

“Each variety of durian has a different taste. Therefore, not everyone likes to eat Musang King durian,” she said, adding that the Musang King supply is abundant this year, so the price has also cooled down.

In previous years, each shipment could only import a few dozen kilos or nearly 100 kg. This year, we can import a few hundred kilos or a ton at a time and according to the market rules, when there is a lot of supply, the price will decrease, Ms. Anh shared.

Mr. Dang Manh Khuong - a durian distributor in Can Tho - also said that the supply of Musang King durian is increasing so the price is also more affordable.

At the beginning, when gardeners grafted Musang King durian and started harvesting, Mr. Khuong often went hunting and bought ripe fruit. The price at that time was up to nearly 1 million VND/kg but still not enough to supply wholesalers.

But now, not only in the West, Musang King durian appears in gardens throughout the Southeast, Central Highlands, and some Central Coast provinces... With abundant supply, gardeners even have groups specializing in wholesale and retail of the world's most delicious durian.

In mid-July, due to the weather, Musang King durian rice was defective and the quality was not as good as usual, so the price also decreased, Mr. Khuong explained.
