Shooting expert Park Chung-gun negotiated a contract with the Sports Administration on September 24.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, the Department of Sports and Physical Training and shooting expert Park Chung-gun will negotiate a new contract on September 24. The Department of Sports and Physical Training has set a date to extend the contract with Mr. Park, after an explanation meeting with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this afternoon, September 13.

Initially, expert Park Chung-gun intended to leave the Vietnam shooting team after not receiving a contract extension offer from the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Mr. Park's contract expires after August 31). However, after Thanh Nien Newspaper's reflection, the Department of Sports and Physical Training sent a letter requesting a contract extension to Mr. Park.

In the new contract, the Department of Sports and Physical Training set targets for Mr. Park including winning 1 to 2 gold medals at the 2026 ASIAD and 1 gold medal at the 2028 Olympics, in addition to 3 gold medals at the 2025 SEA Games.

Mr. Park shared: "I will consider the proposal of the Department of Sports and Physical Training. In my opinion, there are terms that need to be carefully considered and discussed. For example, the goal of winning 3 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games is within reach. The goal of winning 2 gold medals at the 2026 ASIAD is possible. However, the Olympic gold medal is not easy to achieve.

I think Vietnamese shooting needs more synchronous investment. It needs a lot of investment if we want to win gold medals. I will discuss carefully with them and frankly express my opinion."

The Department of Sports and Physical Training proposed to sign a contract with Mr. Park Chung-gun in 2 phases:

- 2024: from October 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024

- 2025: from January 3, 2025 - December 31, 2025

Training content includes: female pistol (currently there are 5 athletes: Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang, Trieu Thi Hoa Hong, Nguyen Thi Huong, Tran Thi Xuan Huong, can be added or replaced during the training process as suggested by experts.

The Department of Sports and Physical Training clearly stated that the completion of the targets for each specific stage as above is the basis for evaluating the completion of the tasks of experts in shooting annually to be able to continue to the next stage or not. Shooting is a key sport , expected to achieve gold medals.

Mr. Park Chung-gun is one of the foreign experts who has been associated with Vietnamese sports for the longest time. The Korean expert has been with the shooting team for a decade, leaving his mark on the 2 Olympic medals at Rio 2016 (1 gold, 1 silver) of shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, and the gold medal at ASIAD 19 of Pham Quang Huy in Hangzhou, China.
