In the 2023-24 V-League, Hanoi FC had a disappointing debut when they lost 3-5 to Hai Phong at Hang Day Stadium on the evening of October 29. In the 2023/2024 AFC Champions League, the Capital team suffered 3 consecutive defeats against opponents from Korea, Japan and China.
Faced with this situation, on the afternoon of October 30, the Board of Directors of Hanoi Football Club officially assigned Mr. Dinh The Nam, Director of Hanoi Youth Football Training Center, to the position of interim coach, replacing coach Le Duc Tuan from round 3 of V-League 2023-24.

Hanoi FC's announcement said: "Since parting ways with coach BoZidar Bandovic, Hanoi FC has not yet found a suitable person to take on the role of captain. All training and competition plans in the recent past have been handed over to assistant Le Duc Tuan and his colleagues.
However, after 2 matches under the 1982-born assistant coach, the Capital team was not really successful in terms of achievements when they both suffered defeats, 1-2 against Wuhan Three Towns in the AFC Champions League and most recently 3-5 against Hai Phong Club.
In order to improve the professional skills in a positive direction and prepare for the next fierce journey, the Board of Directors agreed to change the personnel in the coaching role, assigning it to Mr. Dinh The Nam, currently the Director of the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center.
Coach Dinh The Nam, born in 1965, worked at the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center from 2011 to 2013 as Deputy Director. Starting from last July, he returned to the Hanoi youth football team after 10 years with the desire to find and train more talented players for the capital team as well as the national team levels.
During his coaching career, the coach from Hai Phong left his mark by bringing U16 Vietnam to the quarterfinals of the 2016 U16 Asian Championship, and most recently, with U23 Vietnam winning the 2022 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Cambodia in an impressive and emotional way in the context of a series of players infected with Covid-19.
After receiving the heavy task of leading Hanoi FC, Coach Dinh The Nam said: "I was quite surprised to receive the decision from the Board of Directors today. This is both an opportunity and a challenge for me. I will try my best with the team in the match against Hanoi Police on Friday.
I have been working here since the very first days so it will not be difficult for me to get used to the work. The quality of the staff are all national players at all levels, my job is to connect you all more smoothly.
In general, difficulties are surrounding us, but the team's tradition of overcoming difficulties has been shown many times before, this is not the first time. I believe the team will soon find its way back to winning ways."
