The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup ended with Chelsea winning the title after a 3-0 victory over PSG in the final.
The 2025 Club World Cup, with 32 participating teams for the first time, has officially become a "gold mine" for FIFA, bringing in a huge revenue of 2 billion dollars and affirming the organization's position as a global brand.
The tournament’s biggest source of revenue comes from television rights. A deal worth more than $1 billion with DAZN has brought in a huge amount of money for the organizers. This is complemented by sponsorship deals and premium packages in host cities like Los Angeles and New York. Ticket sales and other ancillary services are also significant sources of revenue.
Revenue from the tournament accounts for more than 15% of FIFA's projected $13 billion total in the 2023-2026 cycle.
This huge revenue was predicted by the world football organization in advance, so they "generously" paid out huge bonuses of up to 1 billion dollars to the participating teams.
Champion Chelsea "pocketed" 115 million dollars. Runner-up PSG also received 107 million dollars. Notably, even the team eliminated from the group stage received more than 10 million dollars each.
Despite its financial success, the league's reception in the United States has been mixed.
The empty stands reflected that, with average attendances in the group stage hovering around 34,700, with many non-European games being played to fewer than 10,000 spectators in giant NFL stadiums.
Viewership across television and digital platforms, on the other hand, was a bright spot. In the US, TNT Sports recorded an average of more than 418,000 viewers per game, with peak viewing figures of more than 950,000.
Globally, DAZN reported a 21% increase in traffic for UEFA Champions League matches.
However, the tournament has also faced challenges when it has been criticized for “wearing out” players. At the same time, many matches between lesser-known teams have not brought professionalism.
