There is such a way to show gratitude!

Veteran Le Van Phong (born in 1945, residing in Binh Phong hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, Tay Ninh province) has spent more than 10 years taking care of martyrs' graves at Chau Thanh Martyrs' Cemetery (Chau Thanh commune).

In 2016, due to old age and poor health, Mr. Phong could no longer continue this meaningful work. His son, Mr. Le Trong Thuong (49 years old), took over his duties, day and night looking after, cleaning and taking care of the martyrs' graves.

Mr. Thuong said: “After retiring, my father agreed to look after and take care of the martyrs’ graves at Chau Thanh Martyrs’ Cemetery out of gratitude to his comrades. After my father retired, I continued to be involved in this meaningful work.”

Accompanying Mr. Thuong in the caretaker work is Mr. Truong Minh Thanh (born in 1979, residing in Binh Phong hamlet, Chau Thanh commune). The two men take turns sweeping and cleaning the cemetery area, welcoming relatives of martyrs to visit their graves. After nearly 10 years of working at the cemetery, Mr. Thuong clearly remembers the information and resting place of each martyr.

Whenever visitors came to visit or search for graves, he always enthusiastically helped. When schools, agencies, and units came to burn incense and pay tribute to heroic martyrs, Mr. Thuong became a "tour guide" introducing the cemetery and helping people burn incense on the graves.

“The heroic martyrs sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Therefore, looking after and taking care of the martyrs’ graves is also a way for me to express my deep gratitude to the previous generation. I am very proud of my job and hope to be able to stick with it for a long time,” Mr. Thuong shared./.
