Should I eat loach regularly?

VnExpressVnExpress13/11/2023

My family often eats loach because many people think they are rich in nutrients, calcium, and especially enhance physiology. Is this true? (Tuan, 43 years old, Hanoi )

Reply:

In Oriental medicine, loach is considered "water ginseng" because it has many effects of nourishing the body and enhancing physiology. Loach contains a lot of lysine - an essential component in sperm formation. Therefore, eating loach not only helps increase the quantity but also the quality of sperm.

In addition, loach contains a lot of calcium. According to the Vietnamese food composition table, 100g of loach provides 109mg of calcium along with protein and other nutrients, calcium content is 6 times higher than carp and about 10 times higher than squid, helping to prevent rickets in children and strengthen bones in the elderly. You can cook with tofu to increase the best calcium content for the body.

Eating small fish with bones will absorb the most calcium. To ensure maximum quality, you should buy fresh loach, still wriggling strongly, with a large body, clear eyes, shiny skin and bright red gills. You can eat this type of fish regularly, but you need to diversify your food and not consume it continuously.

In addition, loach should not be eaten with vinegar, tomatoes, or dog meat because of the risk of poisoning and digestive disorders. Cook thoroughly and avoid eating raw to prevent parasitic infections.
