President Biden's son wants the court to retry his gun possession case

Hunter Biden became the first child of a sitting US president to be convicted of a felony on June 11, after a jury found him guilty on all three charges of lying about using drugs when buying a gun in 2018, according to Reuters.

On June 24, the defendant’s lawyers filed a request for a retrial. The reason given was that an appeals court had not given the green light for the recent trial, and the lawyers argued that the trial had taken place without sufficient conditions and should be re-conducted.

More specifically, the federal appeals court rejected two of Mr. Biden’s motions to dismiss the charges. However, lawyers said the court has not yet made a formal decision to reject either of the defendant’s two appeals.

Hunter Biden claims that the law he is accused of violating is constitutionally ambiguous and infringed on his right to own a gun under the Second Amendment of the US Constitution.

The son of the US President has denied the charges and his lawyers have said they will appeal. President Joe Biden has said he will not pardon his son.
