Announcing emergency situation of landslide on Giao Hoa river bank

The Provincial People's Committee has just decided to announce an emergency situation of landslides on the embankment to prevent erosion of the Giao Hoa river bank (in the area of Self-governing People's Group No. 6, Chau Thanh Hamlet, Giao Long Commune), 60m long, dangerous landslide level.

The landslide completely damaged a 30m long embankment.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang An - Vice Chairman of Giao Long Commune People's Committee, the project to prevent erosion of Giao Long riverbank was invested in 2005, with a length of 2km. A section of the project in the area of Self-governing People's Group No. 6, previously had a landslide on the embankment slope, more than 2 months ago, the embankment body continued to collapse and there were signs of further erosion... Giao Long Commune People's Committee urgently put up signs, warning about the landslide area to let people know, to ensure the health and safety of people.

According to Mr. An, the commune hopes that the competent authorities will soon deploy remedial measures. Because the embankment project to prevent erosion of the Giao Long river bank is also a dike and a traffic route for households living in the area. The landslide has completely damaged a 30m long embankment, causing subsidence and cracks in the rural traffic road inside the 3m wide embankment. The total damage is estimated at over 2 billion VND.

If there is no timely reinforcement and repair solution, the landslide will continue to expand in scale, causing the risk of flooding about 43 hectares of agricultural land, affecting 247 houses, as well as schools, agency headquarters, commune health stations, production and business establishments...

According to Mr. Le Minh Truyen - Deputy Director of the Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board, following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the board has coordinated with relevant departments, branches, units and Giao Long Commune People's Committee to conduct surveys, assess the current situation and advise the Provincial People's Committee on solutions to minimize damage caused by landslides.
