The "One Commune One Product - OCOP" program, implemented by the Government since 2018, has become one of the major policies with a profound impact on rural economic development. This is not only a program to encourage the production of goods in the direction of increasing value, but also a driving force to awaken the creative potential, intelligence and entrepreneurial spirit of rural people.

As of September 2025, the whole country had 17,316 OCOP products with 3 stars or more from 9,345 OCOP entities; The Mekong Delta (including Can Tho, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, An Giang and Ca Mau) had 3,907 OCOP products with 3 stars or more from 2,009 OCOP entities. In An Giang alone, the OCOP Program has achieved many important results: the whole province has 582 OCOP-recognized products from 324 entities (including 14 5-star products, 1 potential 5-star product, 52 4-star products, 515 3-star products).

OCOP products are constantly improving in design and packaging, ensuring quality and food safety, gradually affirming their reputation in the market. More importantly, the OCOP program not only brings economic value but also contributes to preserving and promoting local cultural identity, spreading the spirit of innovation, creating jobs, improving income and living standards for rural people.

Along with that, trade promotion activities are increasingly focused. Many typical products, OCOP products are available at large supermarket systems such as Co.op Mart, Big C, Lotte, VinMart, Bach Hoa Xanh... and on reputable e-commerce platforms such as: Voso, Postmart, Lazada, Shopee, Sendo...

In An Giang province, attention has recently been paid to connecting OCOP products with e-commerce platforms, and establishing centers to introduce and promote OCOP products and local specialties. In addition, An Giang also encourages and supports businesses, cooperatives, and production households to participate in fairs, exhibitions, and forums connecting domestic and foreign supply and demand. Through that, An Giang's OCOP products not only expand the domestic market but also gradually approach potential international markets.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc shared that An Giang is a province with rich potential in agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, with many famous products closely associated with indigenous culture and community life. This is the foundation for developing typical OCOP products, imbued with regional identity.

In the context of integration, connecting OCOP products with trade systems is increasingly important: Helping local products expand their consumption markets and improve their competitiveness; Creating conditions for businesses, cooperatives, and OCOP entities to participate more deeply in the global value chain; Contributing to promoting the image, culture, and people of An Giang to domestic and foreign friends.

Focus on quality, building OCOP product brand

At the conference, delegates said that the conference on connecting OCOP products with commercial systems is very important. This is an opportunity for management agencies, distribution enterprises and OCOP entities to discuss, share experiences and find effective connection solutions.

At the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development Pham Van Duy informed that the market demand for consumption and export of deeply processed agricultural products is increasing; OCOP products have the potential to become national brands, especially in the Mekong Delta region with advantages in raw materials of rice, seafood, and specialty fruits - which is the foundation for developing products that meet national and international standards.

However, through the evaluation of OCOP product profiles, there are still some limitations, such as: lack of QCVN citation, lack of ISO 17025 standard test certificates; Many entities do not have a plan to recall products when they expire; Packaging does not meet the requirements of high-end markets, not to mention the story associated with local identity; Linking raw material areas is not sustainable, lack of long-term contracts and VietGAP/GlobalGAP certification.

In order for OCOP products to connect with trade systems and reach consumers conveniently, the Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development emphasized that the Mekong Delta region has special advantages in terms of resources and agricultural products, and can completely become the center of high-quality OCOP products in the country. To achieve this goal, OCOP subjects and local leaders pay attention to and standardize documents - upgrade management systems - expand markets - sustainably develop existing products; focusing on upgrading products from 3 stars to 4-5 stars is not only a technical requirement, but also a strategic step to help increase the value of agricultural products, increase farmers' income and contribute to the goal of sustainable rural economic development.

In order for OCOP products to reach consumers, in addition to the entities constantly improving product quality, ensuring standards and regulations on food safety and traceability, local leaders and entities need to form points of sale for OCOP products but with a variety of products from many other localities, so that An Giang people can buy OCOP products from Ca Mau and products from the Northwest region.

However, managers of trade systems noted that OCOP product subjects need to improve and maintain products, diversify product designs, clearly show product images on packaging, state the benefits of using the product, production date, expiry date and product price.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam expressed his joy at witnessing the maturity of OCOP entities; there are no longer entities raising issues about building OCOP products, but instead focusing on improving product quality, design, linking product consumption, especially connecting to bring products into commercial systems.
