Since then, the program has reached fishermen in many coastal provinces and cities across the country.
The goal of the program “Lighting up the sea with fishermen” is to persistently organize many propaganda activities for fishermen to understand and properly apply the law in legal fishing, contributing to removing the European Commission’s IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood. Specifically, publishing and giving away to the government, departments, branches and fishermen the handbook “Things to know about fishing”. The handbook not only provides basic legal knowledge but also serves as a guideline to help fishermen comply with regulations when going out to sea.
Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper Mai Ngoc Phuoc delivered the opening speech
Gia Lai is the 6th coastal locality in 2025 where Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper organizes the Program and this is also the last locality where the Program comes to fishermen in coastal provinces and cities. Gia Lai province is aiming for a new development goal, effectively and sustainably exploiting the potential of aquatic products. One of the great expectations of Gia Lai fishermen and seafood businesses is that Vietnam will soon have the European Commission's IUU yellow card removed from Vietnamese seafood. If successful, the value of seafood exports could increase by 30 to 50%, opening up great opportunities for the international market, thereby improving fishermen's income and enhancing the brand of Vietnamese seafood.
With that spirit, through the program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen", Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper hopes to join hands with Gia Lai province to help fishermen develop a sustainable marine economy . Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper will continue to contribute to raising people's awareness of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, so that we can soon achieve the goal of removing the IUU "yellow card". Removing the "yellow card" will be a "breath of fresh air", bringing many great benefits, helping fishermen have a better and more prosperous life.
