Former Pakistani Prime Minister Khan questioned again on corruption charges

Mr Khan said the corruption charges were fabricated. He was arrested and detained on 9 May, sparking widespread protests across the country. Mr Khan was later released on bail.

“Mr. Khan has participated in the investigation,” his lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, said, referring to his questioning by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials on corruption charges.

Chaudhry said Mr Khan's wife, Bushra Khan, who also faces bribery charges, was also present but was not questioned.

Mr Khan, a former cricket star, became Pakistan's prime minister in 2018 but was ousted after a confidence vote in 2022.

Supporters of Mr Khan have held protests since earlier this month, ransacking the homes of senior officers and storming army headquarters.

NAB, the agency that has been investigating, asked Mr. Khan to appear for questioning on May 18, but he refused. NAB has given Mr. Khan a deadline of May 25 to appear, or he could be arrested if he fails to comply.

NAB arrested Mr Khan this month on allegations that he and his wife received land worth millions of dollars from a property tycoon through a charitable trust.
