Economic development associated with regional advantages
Phuoc Long Commune was established on the basis of merging Phuoc Long Commune, Phuoc Long Town and Vinh Phu Dong Commune, with an area of over 98 km² and a population of over 47,000 people. In particular, the average income per capita is currently 112 million VND/year, reflecting the positive changes in production and life of the people here.
The woven products of Truc Xanh Cooperative (Hamlet My 1, Phuoc Long Commune) are popular with many customers.
In recent years, the commune government has oriented the development of many economic models suitable for natural conditions, such as shrimp - rice, bringing seasonal flowers to the fields, growing VietGAP sticky corn, raising mud-free eels , etc. These models not only make good use of the land and environmental potential but also bring about clear economic efficiency, helping people stabilize their income.
Mr. Doan Van Gia, Vice Chairman of Phuoc Long Commune People's Committee, said : "To continue to increase people's income, the commune is reviewing the potential and advantages of each area and hamlet to have specific development orientations. The goal by 2030 is to have an average income per capita of 155 million VND or more. Along with agriculture , the commune will focus on developing the private economy in the spirit of Resolution 68 of the Politburo, considering this an important driving force to improve people's lives."
Along with production development, the commune also pays attention to investing in electricity, roads, schools, and stations, creating favorable conditions for daily life, production, and trade. Ms. To Thi Hanh, residing in Phuoc Hoa Tien hamlet, shared: “Now, the roads are spacious and the electricity grid is full. People clearly see the government's attention, so they are more confident in investing in production. Previously, they only had enough to eat, but now many families have saved up and bought more machinery to expand their scale.”
Aiming for sustainable income
Traffic roads in Phuoc Long commune are invested in spaciousness, creating convenience for people's life and production.
Besides its agricultural strengths, Phuoc Long commune is also famous for its bamboo weaving, a traditional craft that has existed for over 100 years. Despite difficulties in product output, hundreds of households still persevere in the craft, improving designs to meet market demand. The weaving craft not only helps people increase their income during their leisure time, but also contributes to preserving the traditional cultural identity of their homeland.
Mr. Pham Van Dat, Deputy Director of Truc Xanh Cooperative (Hamlet My 1, Phuoc Long Commune), said: “Although the weaving profession has difficulties in terms of output, it still helps many households stabilize their lives. On average, each person can earn from 70,000 to 100,000 VND/day, depending on the stage. Many children also help their parents after school, both to earn extra income and to maintain the profession. The cooperative is making efforts to connect with the market and find ways to consume products so that the traditional profession can continue to develop.”
People of Phuoc Long commune have preserved the craft of weaving bamboo for over 100 years.
Maintaining and promoting the weaving craft not only creates a sustainable livelihood, but also links economic development with preserving local culture. This is an important direction in building advanced new rural areas. At the same time, increasing people's income is also a consistent goal in the new rural construction program in Phuoc Long. With the consensus of the government and the people, the commune is gradually achieving clear results, increasing income, improving life, and changing the face of the countryside every day.
In the coming time, Phuoc Long commune will continue to exploit natural advantages, replicate effective production models, promote market linkages, and create conditions for the private economy to develop strongly. These are necessary steps for Phuoc Long to increase people's income, aiming at the goal of a new model rural area, affirming the position of the locality in the general development process, and at the same time contributing to the successful implementation of the socio-economic development goals of the province.
