The National Day of Mourning for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has passed, but the whole country is still in infinite sorrow and grief as it bids farewell to the comrade, the excellent leader, the exemplary loyal friend, the grandfather, father, and teacher of great personality...

From 5am on the day of the National Mourning, at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong (Hanoi), people came early to bid farewell to the beloved General Secretary.

There were old veterans who asked their children to take them to the funeral home. There were wounded soldiers with medals on their chests who came alone on crutches to pay their respects, wiping their tears with their remaining arms. Many old men and women in wheelchairs held the General Secretary's portrait as if it were a picture of their loved one.

The police and soldiers guarding this area had probably never seen such a large and orderly gathering of people. All were silent in the sad atmosphere, except for the uncontrollable sobs.

In the General Secretary's hometown of Dong Anh, all roads and landscapes have been carefully prepared for neighbors and people in the district to come and burn incense to bid farewell to an outstanding son of the homeland.

All over the country, friends and overseas Vietnamese living far away from the Fatherland followed and bid farewell to the General Secretary...

The days of national mourning are the days when “life sheds tears and the sky sheds rain” (poem by To Huu). And there were times when the sun was extremely hot, the people around shared with the organizers and visitors to the General Secretary by providing drinking water and turning on electric fans to help people beat the heat. Many young people in green uniforms volunteered to help each person with the hearts of the young generation full of gratitude to those who came before.

A veteran expressed his feelings: “We are very happy and touched to see that not only the older generation has deep feelings and emotions at the passing of the General Secretary, but also the young generation has many touching gratitude. Just look at the red eyes of the children. It can be seen that the young generation is also very concerned about the country's issues.”

The bicycles of poor people also flew flags at half-mast… Many people who did not come to the funeral home still paid their respects to the General Secretary according to their conditions…

During the days of national mourning, wherever I went, I saw, next to the flags flying at half-mast, many lines of mournful farewells from people who had never met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The passing of this exemplary communist was a common topic for all meetings, gatherings, and private discussions... of all classes, all ages, all professions, all localities...

Those who are interested in current events, politics, and the building of Party organizations... praise the General Secretary's anti-corruption campaign, his uncompromising and resolute "furnace-burning" campaign, and the mettle and theoretical level of a country leader who rose from a journalist and theorist, from Party building work at the grassroots level to the Central level.

Other people clearly expressed their love and admiration for the moral qualities, clean, honest, and simple lifestyle of the General Secretary as well as his exemplary family.

Almost after his death, through the media, people learned a little about his private family life. People learned that he was still driving the 1998 Toyota Crown that his predecessor had left behind. They knew that wherever he went, he was quiet and did not want protection, did not like having an entourage and being welcomed by the guards. They respected him even more for still maintaining the tradition of respecting teachers, and people even cared about the fact that when he was in the hospital, he still wanted to eat simple peanut candy like before...

Artists expressed their condolences for his passing through music, paintings, poetry, etc.

There were painters who spent all day and night painting the General Secretary, and many amateur musicians composed touching songs about him that were well received by the people.

Our country has held several State funerals over the past decades. And on the days of State funeral to send off General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, all the rituals and ceremonies were organized scientifically and solemnly, making it very convenient for people to visit and bid him farewell.

After the funeral, people were very interested in sharing the image of the General Secretary's wife. She tried to contain her grief, silently thanking the visitors, she only cried when lighting incense, when touching her husband's coffin covered with the national flag, and when scattering flowers for the last farewell... Throughout the funeral, she only silently and humbly stood back behind those who were performing the rituals as if afraid of disturbing everyone...

After the funeral, people also shared and were moved by the words of gratitude of Mr. Nguyen Trong Truong - son of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, when he only called him by the most affectionate term "Dad", and he addressed everyone as "nephew", "we", without mentioning a single sentence related to his father's position. Obviously, the father's character, modesty and proper behavior have permeated the lifestyle of his family and his son even in the most painful moment of farewell.

During the past two days of National Mourning, all stories and information about the General Secretary have received great attention from the people, raising questions about the fate of the country, the fight against corruption, Party building and the upcoming personnel structure...

The people's concern also shows the great things that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made great contributions to, and the unfinished work that the General Secretary is doing...

I think those things explain why General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is so respected, trusted and mourned by the people!
