History

Commenting on the History exam, Ms. Dinh Thi Trang Nhung - Head of History Department of Lomonosov Secondary and High School (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi ), said that the exam structure was similar to previous years' exam questions.

11th grade knowledge section (4 questions), World (8 questions), Vietnamese history from 1919 to present (28 questions). The content closely follows the textbook knowledge. The recognition questions have few distracting options. Students only need to have a firm grasp of the basic knowledge in class to achieve a score of 7 points or higher. However, the exam has many recognition level questions related to time frames that students need to remember accurately.

The exam is easier than last year. The high-level application questions are also easier. The average score this year is expected to be higher than last year and the number of scores above 9 is predicted to be higher. The number of scores below 5 has decreased. The average score is from 6 to 7 points.

Dr. Hoang Thi Hong Nga, Head of the History Group, High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, assessed that the History exam has a similar structure to every year, with the first 32 questions at the level of understanding and recognition, and the rest at the level of application and high application.

The exam ensures the requirements for assessing the capacity of high school graduates in terms of knowledge and skills in perceiving world history and Vietnamese history, and at the same time ensures the requirements for differentiating students, for schools that need to select students with thinking and skills in History in particular and social sciences in general.

There are questions in the test that students need to read carefully, analyze and clarify the terms and content of the options, from there they can eliminate the confusing options and choose the correct option. "Overall, this year's test is a bit more difficult than last year because students have to approach some longer questions, more complex leads when citing excerpts and reading comprehension to do it," Ms. Nga said.

In addition, Ms. Nga was impressed with some new types of questions such as giving excerpts and forcing students to apply reading comprehension skills to answer. "These are question formats that use historical passages quoted from sources in textbooks and reliable historical sources. From reading and understanding excerpts, students apply their knowledge of reading and understanding historical materials in the specific context of each question to be able to choose the correct answer.

If the old exam only stopped at giving subjective sentences from the test maker, this year's exam has forms in the sentences as paragraphs to link the asked ideas with historical data. Therefore, students' ability needs to be raised to a new level, which is reading comprehension, overcoming rote learning, mechanical learning, and passive learning," said Dr. Nga.

With this test, Ms. Nga believes that good students can get 5-7 points; good students can get 8-9 points; specialized and excellent students can still get 10 points. However, because the test still has many long and complicated questions, the average score for History may still not be high.
