Only a few schools implement
In the 2025-2026 school year, Tran Nhat Duat Secondary School (Nha Trang Ward) has 19 classes with about 800 students, but only 16 classrooms. Therefore, the school has arranged 12 rooms for 12 classes to study 2 sessions/day, including all grades 6 and 9, plus 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 8. The remaining 4 rooms are for 7 classes and are only enough to organize 1 session/day. Mr. Tran Pham Duy Khoi - Principal of the school said that for classes taught 2 sessions/day, the school arranges 4 periods in the morning to study according to the 2018 General Education Program and 3 periods in the afternoon to review and consolidate knowledge for students, organize life skills education activities, STEM education... Recently, parents of students have sponsored TVs for some classrooms to ensure that all classes have equipment for teachers to conduct electronic lectures when organizing 2 sessions/day. The current difficulty is that the school is short of 3 teachers compared to the assigned staff, so it has to contract teachers outside the school to ensure enough teaching staff. In addition, to prepare for organizing boarding meals, the school has surveyed the needs of parents, but currently only more than 50 students have registered. In the future, if the number of registered students increases, the school will coordinate with a unit specializing in providing school meals to implement boarding services, and at the same time study a plan to manage students, ensuring their safety during their stay at school. Currently, because there is no specific guidance document on organizing boarding at the secondary level, this issue is still confusing.

Some other schools in the province have also initially implemented teaching 2 sessions/day such as: Yersin Secondary School, Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School (Nha Trang Ward), Nguyen Viet Xuan Secondary School (North Nha Trang Ward), Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School (North Cam Ranh Ward), Trinh Phong Secondary School (Dong Ninh Hoa Ward), Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School (Anh Dung Commune), Ngo Gia Tu High School (North Cam Ranh Ward), Nguyen Hue High School (Ninh Phuoc Commune)... Among them, some schools have only applied this in a few grades and have not been able to implement it synchronously. The majority of the remaining high schools have not yet organized teaching 2 sessions/day due to difficulties in facilities and teaching staff. Mr. Le Anh - Principal of Nguyen Du High School (Ninh Son Commune) said: "Initially, the school planned to organize 2 sessions/day because there were enough 18 classrooms for 18 classes. However, after reviewing, the school found that the facilities were not guaranteed, many classrooms were degraded, desks and chairs were damaged, the teaching staff was locally surplus or shortage, and some teachers were participating in professional development training. Therefore, the school needs to invest synchronously in facilities and ensure that the new teaching staff can implement 2 sessions/day".
Will check for guidance and direction
Mr. Le Dinh Thuan - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said: Most secondary and high schools do not have enough facilities and classrooms (1 classroom per class) to implement teaching 2 sessions/day. Implementation at the secondary level is more difficult than at the primary level due to the characteristics of secondary and high school teachers teaching by period, by one or a few subjects and teaching many different classes during the week. Meanwhile, at the primary level, teachers teach most subjects for a fixed class (except for some specialized subjects such as Music, Fine Arts, Information Technology...), so there is less need to coordinate teachers between classes. The number of teaching periods of primary school teachers is also less than that of secondary schools. In addition, each commune and ward usually has 2 or more primary schools, helping to solve the problem of the number of teachers in class, while the number of secondary schools is less, making it difficult to arrange teachers. The implementation of subjects and activities in the second session such as: National defense and security education, physical education, local education, sports , experiential activities, career guidance, life skills education... is also a difficult problem in building a teaching plan, at the same time requiring a team of specialized teachers and financial resources to coordinate with units outside the school.
According to the roadmap set for junior high school and high school levels, in the 2025-2026 school year, the whole province will implement teaching 2 sessions/day in qualified schools, by the 2026-2027 school year, it will be implemented in 50% of schools, and in the 2029-2030 school year, it will be implemented simultaneously. Currently, the Department of Education and Training is counting the number of schools implementing teaching 2 sessions/day. In the near future, it will conduct field surveys at schools, check the school's education plan and subject groups, and teachers' teaching plans to grasp the specific situation to have instructions and orientations. Schools are also reviewing facilities, teaching staff, and determining funding needs so that localities and sectors can have investment plans to ensure conditions for organizing teaching 2 sessions/day.
