Proposal for students in Ho Chi Minh City to have 11 days off for Tet instead of 9

On the afternoon of December 6, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that the department had submitted a document to the City People's Committee to increase the Tet holiday for students by 2 more days.

Tet holiday starts from January 23, 2025 (December 24) to February 2, 2025 (January 5), a total of 11 days.

If this proposal is approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, students at all levels in Ho Chi Minh City will have 2 more days off for Tet than the decision within the 2024-2025 school year. Specifically, 2 days before Tet.

According to the Tet holiday schedule stipulated in the 2024-2025 school year time plan framework issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee earlier, students at all levels from preschool, primary to secondary and high school in Ho Chi Minh City will have Tet holiday from January 25, 2025 (ie December 26th of the lunar calendar) to February 2, 2025 (ie January 5th of the lunar calendar).

Meanwhile, in previous years, students of all levels in Ho Chi Minh City had 14-16 days off for Tet.

Therefore, many parents, students and teachers reported that they had difficulty sending their children back to their hometowns.

"We hope that students of all levels in Ho Chi Minh City will have 16 days off for Tet like last year," many parents requested.

Can't take more Tet holiday

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online, a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informed: "The Department cannot propose giving students more time off because the time fund for the 2024-2025 school year is too limited.

In previous years, students at all levels started the new school year in mid-August. This year, they will start the new school year on September 5th. Therefore, the department must calculate to have spare time for teachers to complete records and other end-of-year work," said the leader.
