Standard scores for specialized and integrated 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City over the past three years

Ho Chi Minh City: Literature and English specialized classes have often led in standard scores in Ho Chi Minh City over the past three years.

Ho Chi Minh City currently has two specialized schools, Tran Dai Nghia and Le Hong Phong, and four high schools (mass schools) recruiting specialized classes: Mac Dinh Chi, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Nguyen Huu Huan and Gia Dinh.

Among them, Le Hong Phong always has the highest admission score. Last year, the admission score for the 10th grade Biology class of this school was up to 38.75/50 - the highest since 2020. Most of the school's other specialized classes have scores above 30.

The lowest score is for the Physics specialized classes of Nguyen Huu Huan, Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Thuong Hien high schools, some years only 24-25/50 points are required. Students with an average of 5 points per subject can be admitted.

In terms of fluctuation, the Biology and Math specialized classes of Mac Dinh Chi school have the strongest increase in standard scores, 4 and 5.25 points respectively compared to 2022.

With the integrated class model, the highest benchmark score in 2020 was recorded at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted with 41.25 points. Two years later, this benchmark dropped sharply to more than 34 points but was still the highest in the city.

The lowest is the integrated class of Phu Nhuan High School, in 2020, candidates achieved an average of 4.4 points per subject and passed.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City will enroll 1,995 specialized students in 6 schools. This is also the last year the city enrolls specialized students in 4 general high schools. From the 2025-2026 school year, specialized classes will only be available in specialized schools.

To be admitted to specialized or integrated grade 10, students still have to take three general exams including Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. The admission score is the total score of these three exams, plus the score of the specialized or integrated subject multiplied by two, the total is 50.

The new point is that candidates taking the 10th grade specialized exam can register up to 3 wishes instead of 2 as before. The wishes are arranged in order of priority. Candidates who are admitted to a wish must study in that class and cannot change.

For English-specialized classes, candidates have two options. One is the traditional English-specialized class, candidates take the English-specialized exam as in previous years. The other is the English-specialized class according to project 5695 (also known as the English-Math- Science class). This class was first organized at Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted, candidates take the English exam along with Math and Natural Science in English.

The 2024 entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take the Math and Literature exams, each lasting 120 minutes, Foreign Languages 90 minutes, and specialized or integrated subjects 150 minutes.
