Vietnam team makes Qatar win 'sweatily' in AVC Nations Cup volleyball quarterfinals

It took until the 5th nerve-wracking game for the defending champion Qatar to defeat the Vietnamese men's volleyball team in the quarter-finals of the AVC Nations Cup.

On the evening of June 21 in Bahrain, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team faced the defending champion Qatar in the quarterfinals of the AVC Nations Cup 2025. Although rated much lower than the defending champion Qatar, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team created an explosive match and only lost narrowly 2-3.

The first game was full of tension when the Vietnamese men's volleyball team created a balanced game, competing fiercely with the Qatar team. Accurate complaints at the end of the game helped the Vietnamese men's volleyball team rise to win a "suffocating" 31/29 victory. It was also the game in which Nguyen Van Quoc Duy played very effectively, contributing 8 points to the team. The Vietnamese players also showed their fighting spirit, repeatedly saving the opponent's powerful attacks.

Nguyen Van Quoc Duy and his teammates continued to maintain their good form in the second game, creating a fair "tit for tat" match against the defending champion Qatar. The timely acceleration of the Qatar team helped them rise to win 25/21, equalizing the score 1-1. The strength of the defending champion Qatar was shown in the third game when the attack line worked very effectively. This was also the game where the Vietnamese players were not in the best shape, so they accepted defeat 15/25.

Coming back strongly in game 4, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team with the excellence of Nguyen Van Quoc Duy created great attacking pressure against Qatar. Coach Tran Dinh Tien's students took the lead 19/17 then took advantage of the opportunities at the end of the game to take the lead 24/22 then won 25/22, equalizing the score 2-2 and bringing the quarter-final match to the decisive game 5.

The decisive match for the semi-final ticket of the AVC Nations Cup 2025 between Vietnam and Qatar was full of tension. Qatar created a 3-point gap (7/4) but Quan Trong Nghia and his teammates narrowed the gap to only 1 point (7/8, 9/10). However, Qatar came back and won 15/12, thereby closing the hard-fought 3-2 victory over Vietnam and winning the semi-final ticket.
