Vietnam national team will not compete internationally on FIFA days in September

According to the International Football Federation (FIFA) schedule, teams around the world will enter a series of matches on FIFA days in September. In the Southeast Asian region, there are 5 teams that have finalized their friendly match schedules, including the Vietnam team.

Specifically, Thailand will meet Fiji on September 4, then meet Iraq or Hong Kong (China) on September 7. Indonesia will meet Taiwan (China) on September 5 and Lebanon on September 9. Malaysia will meet Singapore on September 4 and Palestine on September 7. In addition to the match against Malaysia, the Singapore team will compete with Myanmar on September 9.

Southeast Asian teams not competing in international friendly matches this time are Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos and Timor Leste.

The reason why the Vietnamese team will not participate in any international matches in September is because some key players are competing in the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers. This is also one of the three important tournaments in 2025 for coach Kim Sang-sik and U23 Vietnam, along with the U23 Southeast Asian tournament and the 33rd SEA Games. The goal of U23 Vietnam is to participate in the Asian Finals for the 6th consecutive time.

The Vietnam national team is also training in parallel with the U23 Vietnam team, led by assistant coach Dinh Hong Vinh. But the team is not at its best. The team will have two friendly matches with Nam Dinh Club on September 4 and Hanoi Police on September 7. This is also an opportunity for the two clubs to test their squad for the 2025-2026 Southeast Asian Cup C1.
