Phan Thiet airport connection road project is about to reach the finish line

The project of the road connecting the coastal axis to Phan Thiet airport ( Binh Thuan province) is urgently constructing the last 1km of asphalt pavement to reach the finish line, ahead of schedule.

The road project connecting Phan Thiet International Airport with the coastal road Vo Nguyen Giap (DT706B), the section passing through Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city, started in January 2024 and is entering the final stage to be completed by the end of December 2024.

In early December, the construction site of the Phan Thiet airport access road was bustling with dozens of workers and machinery operating continuously. The construction teams were rushing to clean the road surface, spray and asphalt about 1.5km of the road connecting the airport with Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

The project manager said that the project has reached more than 90% of the volume. It is expected that by December 10, the contractor will complete the asphalt paving of the entire main route, two weeks ahead of the original schedule.

Lighting, trees, and sidewalks have been completed.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, Deputy Director of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Traffic Works of Binh Thuan Province (investor) said that the project will be implemented synchronously from the beginning of 2024.

Items such as lighting system, trees, drainage and traffic lights have been completed. The asphalt concrete part on the right side of the route (from Vo Nguyen Giap to the airport) has been completed, the left side of the route is in the process of being completed.

The contractor mobilized many motorbikes to speed up the construction progress of the airport connection road.

At the same time, sidewalk paving and other auxiliary works to ensure traffic safety are being urgently implemented. The investor is actively urging the contractor to complete the project on schedule, ensuring the public investment disbursement plan in 2024.

After completion, the airport connecting route will connect to the coastal axis connecting the airport to Phan Thiet city center and Mui Ne resorts.

The route connecting Phan Thiet International Airport with the Vo Nguyen Giap coastal road is 3.63km long, with a 36m wide roadbed, of which the road surface is 13.5m wide and the sidewalks on each side are 5m wide. The project also includes a drainage system, trees, lighting and fire-fighting water supply, with a total investment of about 117.9 billion VND from the provincial budget.

Once completed, the route will connect Phan Thiet airport with the Vo Nguyen Giap coastal axis, facilitating travel to Phan Thiet city and famous tourist areas and resorts in Mui Ne. The project is expected to contribute to promoting the development of transport infrastructure, tourism and the region's economy .

Phan Thiet Airport started construction in January 2015. Up to now, the military items being built by the Air Defense - Air Force have been put into military flight operation in early August 2024.

The civil category is adjusted from 4C to 4E airport level with a 3,050m runway and a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers per year. Currently, Binh Thuan province is promoting the selection of a replacement investor to soon restart the civil airport category according to regulations.
