According to a survey, the management board of traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City said that selling prices will be decided by the market because they are influenced by factors such as goods sources and purchasing power.
The price increase trend is mainly for items used a lot during Tet according to demand and social customs such as mackerel, tuna, live tiger prawns, fresh squid, tangerines, cabbage... which may increase in price by 10 - 20%.
Some high-end fresh flower items such as lilies, red lilies (gladiolus), and carnations increased in price 2-3 times compared to normal days. The rest only fluctuated slightly and a few even decreased in price due to large output.
In particular, the price of livestock and poultry meat is not expected to increase much this year, estimated to fluctuate around 10-20% compared to current prices due to low market demand.
Wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City also informed that currently, some items have lower selling prices compared to the same period last year, such as pickled onions, which fluctuate at 45,000 - 50,000 VND/kg compared to the same period last year at 70,000 VND/kg, a decrease of 28%.
"We regularly coordinate with the relevant authorities and inter-sectoral agencies of the district and city to check prices, check the origin of goods, prevent speculation and hoarding of goods to create artificial scarcity in order to contribute to stabilizing prices in the market during Tet holidays" - Mr. Phan Thanh Tan, Director of Binh Dien Market Company, said.
Meanwhile, supermarket chains are committed to providing goods to consumers at stable prices. There are even many promotional and discount programs during Tet.
To ensure market stability, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City said that the unit continues to monitor and evaluate the supply and demand of goods, especially rice, livestock meat, poultry eggs, vegetables and fruits, and goods with sudden increases in demand during Tet holidays such as confectionery, soft drinks, etc.
At the same time, proactively have plans and measures to ensure supply-demand balance, stabilize the market, and avoid shortages and disruptions in goods sources that cause sudden price increases during the Lunar New Year.
