When the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai entered the golden season, L. (a student in Hanoi ) and a friend decided to leave the capital and ride a motorbike to Lao Cai to admire the impressive beauty of this place.
On the morning of September 20, the couple wandered through many famous places such as Vong Lua and Mam Xoi - places that attract many tourists to take photos of terraced fields.
In the afternoon, two young people went to the Seven-layer Waterfall. This scenic spot is located in My Hang Tua Chu village, Pung Luong commune ( Lao Cai province), famous for its wild and majestic beauty.
Although they knew the trail leading to the waterfall was difficult, the two boys were still surprised to see the 50cm narrow, bumpy, and unsteady road.

"My companion, who was used to driving on mountain roads, took over the control of the vehicle. When my friend shifted into first gear, he suddenly turned the throttle, causing the vehicle to jump forward. We tried to put our feet down to balance, but it was too late. The vehicle tilted and dragged us down the cliff several times," L. recalled.
Falling to a depth of 4-5m, L. was lucky to hold onto a tree trunk. His friend and motorbike fell 25m above the road.
In a state of panic, L. struggled to crawl onto the road and asked for the phone number of a tour guide to ask for help from the commune police.
“The moment I fell into the abyss, I was extremely panicked. If there was no tree blocking the way, we probably would not have had a chance to survive. Luckily, the police force of Pung Luong commune arrived in time to assist in the rescue,” L. said.
It is known that currently, L. and his friend's health is completely normal, the vehicle is not damaged.
Touched by the enthusiastic support of the police, the male student wrote a letter to express his gratitude to the police officers.
Using a 30m long rope, mobilize forces to pull the victim.
As one of the people directly participating in the rescue, Captain Hoang Van Duy (Pung Luong Commune Police, Lao Cai Province) said that he received a call from L. reporting the incident at 2:30 p.m. on September 20.
After receiving the information, Mr. Duy mobilized 6 soldiers from the commune police headquarters and 2 comrades from the village security team to urgently travel 10km to the scene.
“At the accident site, we used a 30m rope for two soldiers to hold onto and go down to approach the victim. Above, six people worked together to pull the young man and his motorbike to a safe position. The entire rescue process took about 20 minutes,” Captain Duy shared.
When he was brought up from the abyss, the victim was still in shock and looked dazed. The police officers of Pung Luong commune tried to encourage and help the young man stabilize his mind.

During his career, Mr. Duy and his teammates have participated in many rescue missions. However, this is the first time he has directly saved a tourist who fell into a deep abyss.
In the emergency situation, the officers and soldiers of Pung Luong Commune Police put the safety and lives of the people first. Thanks to that, the rescue work was deployed promptly, bringing both the victims and vehicles out of the abyss in the shortest time.

According to Captain Duy, traveling on winding, zigzag mountain roads with narrow surfaces always carries the risk of falling off cliffs.
He recommends that tourists who are not confident in driving or lack experience on mountain roads should hire a motorbike taxi driven by a local to ensure safety. In case of driving a motorbike on narrow roads with many curves, the driver should keep the gear low to avoid losing the brakes, reducing the risk of falling into a ravine.
