Within the framework of the Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix in Singapore, the main event is the Singapore Grand Prix, a famous race and the first night race on Asian streets for F1, taking place at the Marina Bay circuit.

The event is boosting Singapore's tourism push to the island, and other parts of the Asia -Pacific .

From $62,000 hotel rooms to racing packages costing up to six figures, the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix is a windfall for businesses near the Marina Bay circuit.

But the money isn’t just in Singapore. Data also shows tourists are spending across Asia before and after the three-day Formula 1 race, which begins on October 3.

Marketing platform Sojern notes that a quarter of Americans and Canadians are taking trips to Japan, 18% of Europeans are heading to Thailand, and nearly a third of Australians are adding trips to Indonesia, primarily Bali.

Many other travelers are combining this year's event in Singapore with trips to China, South Korea, India, the Maldives and Fiji, according to the Sojern platform.

Samer Elhajjar, Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, noted that tourism websites in other countries "revenue" because of the large number of trips to the night race in Singapore with stopovers at popular islands in Southeast Asia.

“Tourists will come to Singapore, enjoy F1, and then travel to Bali for two or three days. That is really great for the economy of the region,” said Mr. Samer Elhajjar .

CNBC Travel also noted a large number of travel packages to the Singapore 2025 Formula 1 Grand Prix, combined with trips to Langkawi and Borneo in Malaysia, and cruises that combine the race with stops in Japan, Hong Kong (China) and Vietnam.

The attraction of Formula 1

Sojern's data aligns with a Visa report published in May this year, which found that other Formula 1 races in Asia-Pacific have generated tourism revenue outside of the host cities.

About 25% of foreigners attending the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix stayed in the Melbourne suburbs after the race, while 10% remained in the city, according to Visa data.

However, some visitors also visited the Yarra Valley wine region, and 5% went to Sydney, about 800 km away.

The three-day Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix has become a week-long event for many.

Many global leaders and business visitors attended trade forums scheduled around the race, such as the Token2049 cryptocurrency conference and the Milken Institute Asia Summit.

Visitors from North America and Europe make up about a quarter of visitors to Singapore ahead of this year's race, and tend to arrive earlier or stay longer than visitors from Asia, according to Sojern data.

Australian travellers still account for the largest share of domestic flight bookings; however, arrivals from South Korea and China have increased this year, moving into the top five, overtaking the UK.

Family travel also benefited from Formula 1 (F1) , up 6.6% year-on-year, while solo travel fell 8%, reflecting an increase in leisure travellers attending the race.

“This means that the length of stay will be extended, which is good for the Singapore economy..., as well as the region ,” said Mr. Elhajjar of the National University of Singapore.

In addition, a separate survey from Hilton released on October 2 also showed that about 40% of travelers in Asia-Pacific plan to attend a sporting or music event abroad, led by China and India.

“These findings reinforce a broader shift in consumer behavior, as guests increasingly prioritize spending on experiences over material goods,” said Ben George, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, Asia Pacific, Hilton.
