Malaysia forged documents to naturalize 7 players - Photo: FAM
The 19-page FIFA report, published on October 6, contained a lot of shocking information. Specifically, FIFA determined that Malaysia had transformed the "birthplaces" of the grandparents of players from Spain, Argentina, and the Netherlands into... people born in Malaysia.
FIFA confirmed that from March to June 2025, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) sent FIFA 7 Eligibility Inquiry applications for the above 7 players.
In each application, FAM attached a copy of each player's grandfather or grandmother's birth certificate, showing that they were "born in Malaysia".
But after verification from authorities in Argentina, Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands, FIFA received contradictory results.
For example, in the case of Hendrik Jan Hevel, FAM submitted documents to FIFA confirming that this player's grandparents were born in Malacca (Malaysia). However, FIFA verified that Hevel's grandparents were actually born in The Hague (Netherlands), with no connection to Malaysia. The same is true for other players.
FIFA said Malaysia can appeal to the FIFA Appeal Committee within 8 days. After the official conclusion from FIFA, the AFC will decide the fate of the Malaysian team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
