From the beginning of 2023 until now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 13,173 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease.

Meanwhile, from the beginning of 2023 until now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 13,173 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD). Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are treating 477 cases of HFMD; of which 476 cases of HFMD are under 6 years old (accounting for 99.7%); there are 36 severe HFMD cases. According to the Department of Health , most of the cases of dengue fever and severe HFMD are transferred from other provinces.

Regarding the Covid-19 epidemic situation, from the beginning of 2023 until now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 5,135 Covid-19 cases announced. Currently, there are only 2 cases being treated in the hospital (1 case needs respiratory support) and 1 case is isolated at home.

Faced with the increasing dengue fever and hand and foot disease epidemics, last week, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health visited districts to assess epidemic prevention activities and directed the strengthening of epidemic prevention work. According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Hung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, dengue fever and hand and foot disease epidemics have been circulating in Ho Chi Minh City for many years. In 2022, Ho Chi Minh City had the highest number of dengue fever cases and deaths in many years, so we must be extremely vigilant. In the first months of 2023, the number of dengue fever cases was lower than the same period in 2022, but the Department of Health assessed the risk of an outbreak and spread if there were no solutions. Ho Chi Minh City has been prepared since the beginning of the year and has implemented quite good control of dengue fever. To better prevent dengue fever, Dr. Hung said that it is necessary to mobilize people to participate in killing mosquitoes and larvae and report on risk points through the "Online Health" application for local authorities to handle. Regarding the hand-foot-mouth disease epidemic, Dr. Hung assessed that the risk of an upcoming increase is very high, especially in families with children. Therefore, district and county health departments have increased monitoring of hand-foot-mouth disease cases, especially reporting cases from private medical facilities. In addition, there is communication about hand washing and preventing infection from caregivers.

Regarding treatment, Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that in the past 1-2 weeks, the number of dengue fever cases has begun to increase. Therefore, hospitals and clinics need to recognize signs of serious illness to avoid death. Regarding TCM, currently, Ho Chi Minh City hospitals are also overloaded due to receiving patients transferred from provinces in the region. The professional council of hospitals has worked together and made recommendations on the effective use of drugs, especially the scarce intravenous Gamma Globulin. It is expected that in more than a week, 3,000 vials of Gamma Globulin will be imported in time to treat severe TCM patients.
