The number of cases is increasing.
Mr. D. TV, 64 years old, on Quan Thanh Street (Thanh Dong Ward), had symptoms such as high fever, dizziness, headache, vomiting, fatigue, and tremors. After that, he bought medicine and used it himself and had an IV at home, but it did not help. When the condition worsened, the family took the patient to Hai Duong Tropical Diseases Hospital for testing, which showed that he had dengue fever and he was treated as an inpatient there. Master, Doctor Pham Thanh Binh, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning (Hai Duong Tropical Diseases Hospital), said: "Some patients, before being admitted to the hospital, arbitrarily ordered IV at home and used antipyretics. Only when they had severe symptoms and the fever did not go down, did they go to the hospital."
According to the City Center for Disease Control (CDC Hai Phong ), at this time, dengue fever cases are recorded every day in the city. From September 20 to now, the whole city has recorded dozens of dengue fever outbreaks including: Le Chan ward (3 outbreaks), Kien An (2 outbreaks) and Viet Hoa, Hai Duong, Hong Bang, Do Son wards... each with 1 outbreak. All of the above outbreaks carry domestic pathogens. Monitoring at the outbreaks shows that houses have mosquito vectors that transmit dengue fever and high mosquito density. Local authorities have directed the spraying of insecticides to kill mosquitoes and general environmental sanitation, and the eradication of larvae in the patient's family and some surrounding households.
According to the Hai Phong CDC, from the beginning of the year to September 26, the entire city recorded 547 cases of dengue fever. Currently, medical facilities in the area are treating more than 20 cases (no serious cases), the rest have been cured. According to the assessment, the dengue fever epidemic is still under control. However, with favorable weather conditions of hot sun and many rainy days creating favorable conditions for mosquitoes to develop, the risk of increasing the number of dengue fever cases in the coming time.

Proactive disease prevention and proper treatment
Dengue fever is a dangerous infectious disease caused by the Dengue virus, spread by Aedes mosquitoes, which can leave many complications if not treated promptly. Faced with the impact of the weather causing the disease to develop complicatedly, to minimize the source of dengue fever spread, Hai Phong CDC is actively coordinating with Medical Centers to strengthen communication activities to prevent and control dengue fever. Along with that, deploying surveillance and providing professional support for disease prevention and control in the locality. Coordinate with the grassroots health system to organize the assessment of mosquito density and larvae index in households in areas with cases; monitor the handling of outbreaks, collect waste, and remove stagnant water containers where disease-causing mosquitoes breed.
Mr. Cao Xuan An, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (CDC Hai Phong) recommends that an effective disease prevention measure is to kill mosquitoes, larvae, and pupae. Accordingly, each person and each family should cover all water containers to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Along with that, release fish into jars, pots, tanks, lakes, and large water containers to kill larvae and pupae; change and wash water containers regularly. At the same time, remove and turn upside down waste items such as bottles, jars, coconut shells, old tires, water containers, and turn upside down unused water containers to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
People should use mosquito nets when sleeping and wear long clothes to prevent mosquito bites even during the day. They should actively cooperate with the health sector in spraying chemicals to prevent and control epidemics. When having a fever, people should go to a medical facility immediately for examination, consultation and treatment, and not self-treat at home.
One of the measures that should be applied to prevent the disease is to vaccinate yourself and your family members. The Qdenga dengue vaccine is produced by the German pharmaceutical company Takeda, licensed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health in May 2024 and is currently being deployed by the Hai Phong CDC Vaccination System to vaccinate people.
In addition, doctors also advise people that if they are unfortunate enough to contract dengue fever, they should see a doctor and receive treatment as directed. They should not wait for symptoms to persist before going to a medical facility, as this can be dangerous. When the body shows signs of high fever, they should not buy medicine to treat themselves at home.
"We recommend that patients with fever should go to medical facilities for examination, testing, diagnosis and timely treatment. Avoid self-medication and IV fluids at home without a doctor's prescription. This can lead to incorrect treatment, worsening of the disease, and even endangering life...", Master, Doctor Pham Thanh Binh, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning (Hai Duong Tropical Diseases Hospital) emphasized.
