Episode 152 of the Vietnamese Family Home program is about to air, hosted by MC Lam Vy Da. The two special guests in this episode are soccer player Bui Tien Dung and supermodel - Runner-up Hoang Thuy. Both will accompany the program as guests, contributing to bring home valuable prizes to support children in difficult circumstances, who are vulnerable early on due to lack of family affection.

Father passed away, mother has a new family, 10 year old girl and her younger brother depend on elderly grandparents, making many people feel sorry

That is the situation of Luong Thi Le Na (2015), currently a 5th grade student at Thanh Tan 1 Primary School, Thanh Ky Commune, Thanh Hoa Province. Her father died in 2017 due to a work accident while working in Hanoi . After losing her husband, Le Na's mother struggled to raise her children alone for 5 years, then remarried. Since having a new family and giving birth to two more children, Le Na's mother no longer has enough money to send money home. She can only call to check on her, occasionally sending her a few hundred thousand dong.

The 10-year-old girl's tearful eyes made everyone who witnessed it choke up. Her childhood was filled with loss and deprivation.

Having lost their father and their mother having a new family, Le Na and her younger brother Luong Duc Thinh (2017) can only rely on their grandparents - Mr. Luong Van Mui (1967) and Mrs. Ha Thi Truong (1968).

However, both of them are sick and old. Mrs. Truong has just spent two months in Hanoi being treated for a blood infection, and has heart disease, so he has to take medication every day and cannot do heavy work. Mr. Mui has a nervous disorder, often has stomach pains, and has to take medication continuously to relieve the pain.

The family's livelihood now depends mainly on three acres of rice fields. In good years, the grandparents harvest about two hundred kilograms of rice, enough to eat. But this year, due to storms, all the rice was damaged. The grandparents' house is far from the market and school, making travel very difficult. Their daily food consists mainly of wild vegetables picked around the house, and occasionally, the grandfather catches fish in the stream. In addition, each month, the two children receive a total of 1 million VND in orphanage allowance, which helps the grandparents cover their living expenses.

Despite living in poverty since childhood, Le Na and her sister were always obedient and filial. After school, they helped their grandparents with housework, cooking, washing dishes, doing laundry, and weeding the fields. They also knew how to plant rice during the harvest season. They both loved their grandparents and told themselves to study hard so that they could take care of them in the future.

Faced with the character’s situation, supermodel Hoang Thuy shared that this was her second time participating in Vietnamese Family Homes, and she is a regular audience member of the show. She could not hide her emotions when witnessing many shelters lacking both affection and material things. In the case of Le Na, Hoang Thuy choked up because she was so young and had to endure many disadvantages in life.

Footballer Bui Tien Dung was also moved, continuously encouraging Le Na’s younger brother – Thinh to be good and try to study well. He gently hugged Thinh, encouraging the boy to quickly overcome the pain of losing a loved one.

MC Lam Vy Da could not hide her emotions when she saw the family of four eating only rice with fish and vegetables. One day, when he could not catch any fish, there was only rice with vegetables, bamboo shoots, or even rice with fish sauce. The MC was speechless when she heard Le Na share her longing for her father - she could only cry and look at his photo. Her father passed away early, leaving the family without a single photo together.

“Looking at situations like this, I feel angry with my children because there are moments to take family photos, but they don't like it or are not happy with it. But for children in situations like Le Na, family photos are something very precious and sacred. I hope children will cherish the moments they have with their families, especially cherish the images of their families,” Lam Vy Da shared.

What made her even more heartbroken was the moment when Luong Duc Thinh - Le Na's younger brother burst into tears when mentioning his father. He said he missed his father but had no memories, because when his father passed away, Thinh was only 2 months old. At such an innocent age, the boy lacked so much affection, making Lam Vy Da and everyone present at the program feel heartbroken.

Another situation that has made many people feel sorry in the Vietnamese Family Shelter program is Vi Thi Vien (2014), currently studying in grade 6 at Xuan Cam Secondary School, Thuong Xuan Commune, Thanh Hoa Province. She is of Thai ethnicity and has just experienced the pain of losing her father due to a stroke in February 2024.

Currently, Vien lives with her mother, Vi Thi Chung (1971), a skinny woman weighing only about 30kg, suffering from mastitis and often having difficulty breathing. Because she has no money for treatment, Chung only uses painkillers to get through the day.

The family only had one sao of rice field to grow rice all year round, but it was still not enough to eat. Every flood season, the stream water rose and damaged the crops, forcing the mother and son to borrow rice from neighbors to survive. The makeshift house built next to the large stream was seriously degraded, located deep in an area with difficult access. In the dark house, there were only two small light bulbs, almost nothing of value in the house, just a rotten old table, a small bed and a broken-legged study table.

Despite living in extremely poor conditions, Vi Thi Vien has been an exemplary student for many years, always diligent, understanding and studying hard. Every month, Chung receives 500,000 VND in single mother allowance. The family is still burdened with a debt of 8 million VND borrowed when she was hospitalized, which has become a big burden when even daily food is lacking. She and her children have to raise chickens for eggs to eat or sell, and vegetables around the house are a familiar dish in meals. Due to malnutrition, not only Chung but Vien is also malnourished and weak.

“I just hope my mother can be cured. What I fear most is that one day she will also leave me. I no longer have a father, I don’t want to lose my mother too,” Vien choked up as she shared. For Ms. Chung, Vien is the greatest spiritual support. Seeing her child being obedient and studying well, she is always proud and tries her best.

"I just hope my mom gets well" - Vien's simple wish at the program.

As a sensible girl, after school, Vien often helps her mother plant rice, weed, and work in the fields – hard work that she has been used to since she was in 3rd grade. When asked about her favorite food, Vien hesitated: "I have never eaten any delicious food. For me, vegetables are the most precious food because they help me relieve hunger." Her innocent answer made many people choke up.

Supermodel Hoang Thuy expressed her concern for Vien's future when only mother and child are left living in a remote area with difficult travel, while Chung's health is increasingly deteriorating.

MC Lam Vy Da emotionally said: “ Vien’s situation makes me feel like I’m stuck in a dead end. I have no relatives, no relatives on both sides, and my mother is seriously ill with no money for treatment. If I were in that situation, I wouldn’t know how to live. Chung’s concern is also what all mothers worry about – no one wants to abandon their children. Even if you fall to the bottom of life, feeling like you’ve hit rock bottom, you still can’t abandon your child. I really sympathize with Vien and her mother’s situation.”

Watch the program Vietnamese Family Warmth broadcast at 20:20 every Friday on HTV7 channel. The program is produced by Bee Media Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Television, with the support of Hoa Sen Home Construction Materials & Interior Supermarket System ( Hoa Sen Group ) and Hoa Sen Plastic Pipe - Source of Happiness.
