Focus on improving people's income

Tan My commune was established on the basis of merging 4 communes, including: Tan Thuy, My Thuy, Duong Thuy and Thai Thuy (old). Before the merger, all 4 communes had met the NTM standards, some localities had many criteria to meet the advanced NTM standards. Chairman of Tan My commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Vuong said: "To achieve that result, the locality has mobilized people to donate land, property and labor to join hands in building the NTM. The local Party Committee and government have also used resources to build the infrastructure system; propagated and mobilized people to renovate mixed gardens, change suitable occupations to develop the economy and increase income".

Thanks to that, the agricultural sector has been restructured towards applying high technology. Tan My has converted more than 37 hectares of ineffective crops to crops of high economic value. Of which, there are 2 greenhouses and net houses produced according to VietGAP process; 1 cooperative (HTX) has been assigned a growing area code to trace the origin of products; 230 hectares of area generate an income of over 100 million VND/ha/year. There are 8 model household gardens, 1 product achieving 4-star OCOP and 5 products achieving 3-star OCOP...

Currently, Tan My commune has concreted nearly 789km of rural roads, reaching over 83.8%. Irrigation and clean water systems have been invested in basic construction, ensuring production and living needs for the people. The whole commune has 23 enterprises, 9 cooperatives, hundreds of individual economic households operating, creating jobs for thousands of people. In the past 5 years, the commune has created jobs for nearly 1,200 workers/year, 556 workers working abroad for a limited period. Thanks to the activities of building new rural areas, especially job creation, the income of people in the commune has reached 67.2 million VND/year, the poverty rate has decreased to 2.52%.

Towards building advanced new rural areas

Immediately after its establishment, the People's Committee of Tan My commune implemented solutions to consolidate the new rural criteria and aim to build advanced new rural areas; directed relevant units to proactively review and re-evaluate all criteria. Through the review, the commune's traffic and irrigation criteria are at risk of decreasing. According to the Head of the Economic Department of Tan My commune, Tran Duy Hung, in the area there are 30km of roads, canals, and irrigation dykes that have not been built or damaged by floods, affecting agricultural production. Some intra-village roads were built too long ago and are now degraded and narrow in width, so they do not meet the criteria...

Bac Thai village has 218 households and 907 people. The village road is 5km long, the alley is over 6km long, and the canal is 2km long, which partly meets the production and travel needs of the people. However, the village's traffic and irrigation criteria still face many difficulties due to degraded works, and many places have not been invested in construction. Currently, the village has 1km of old village road that has degraded, nearly 500m of damaged canal, 3km of village road, 2km of alley, and 2km of canal that have not been concreted.

Head of Bac Thai village Nguyen Van Nhuong said: “In implementing the new rural construction program, people have actively donated land to build roads and change the structure of crops and livestock. Thanks to that, the material and spiritual life of the people has been improved, the whole village has only 6 poor households and 8 near-poor households. However, some traffic and irrigation works in the area have degraded, making it difficult for people to travel and produce. To maintain the new rural criteria and build advanced new rural areas, we hope that the superiors will continue to pay attention, invest in building and upgrading traffic and irrigation works”…

According to the roadmap, Tan My commune will complete the construction of advanced new rural areas by 2030. During this period, the commune strives to increase budget revenue by 8%-10%, and per capita income by 25%-30% compared to 2025. The transportation and irrigation systems meet the travel and production needs of the people. All schools meet national standards (100%), poor households are under 1.5%, 99.96% of the population has access to clean water, and 100% of domestic solid waste is collected...

Aiming at building advanced new rural areas, Tan My Commune People's Committee has assigned specific tasks to each department and specialized unit in charge of implementing the criteria. "Currently, the specialized department continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to propagate to people to maintain and gradually replicate appropriate and effective production models, such as: 3rd crop fish farming model, livestock development, forest planting, citrus planting... In addition, the Commune People's Committee will also find solutions to have capital to invest in building and repairing traffic and irrigation works and improving the quality of the criteria", Chairman of Tan My Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Vuong added.
