In response to the incident where fishing boat BD 97258 TS and 8 fishermen lost contact while operating in the open sea, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan directed functional forces to urgently mobilize all resources, expand the search area, and ensure the safety of fishermen.

According to the report of the Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command at the Conference on deploying search and rescue work for missing fishing vessels held on September 30, fishing vessel BD 97258 TS, owned and captained by Mr. Huynh Van Son (44 years old, residing in Hoai Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai), along with 8 other fishermen, engaged in fishing for tuna. The vessel departed from Ca Na Border Control Station, Khanh Hoa province on September 12, 2025.

At 8:13 p.m. on September 27, while the ship was operating in the sea area about 147 nautical miles from Quy Nhon ward and 154 nautical miles from Khanh Hoa, it lost connection signal with the journey monitoring device. Since then, the ship has had no contact with the family. Noticing unusual signs, the family reported to the authorities.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Standing Office of the Provincial Civil Defense Command inspected the fishing vessel monitoring system of the Directorate of Fisheries. According to recorded data, the last position of the vessel at 20:30 on September 27 was at coordinates 13°04'24"N-111°41'50"E. The vessel was moving at a speed of 2 nautical miles/hour and about 154 nautical miles northeast of the center of the path of storm No. 10.

Faced with the urgent situation, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested rescue forces to "find every way to approach and rescue the fishermen in distress". He also emphasized: "This is an unexpected incident but can cause serious damage to people and property. We must consider the search for fishermen as a key and urgent task at this time, not leaving people alone in the middle of the sea".

Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command has directed Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station to monitor and verify relevant information; at the same time, directed units and the Disaster Prevention and Control Watch Station, the Provincial Border Guard to notify and mobilize civilian vehicles operating in the sea area where the ship went missing. Currently, there are 4 fishing boats including: BD 96433 TS, BD 95414 TS, BD 96337 TS, BD 97397 TS participating in the search support.

At the same time, Gia Lai province has sent a document to the Military Region Command and requested the Navy Command, Coast Guard, Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Regions II and IV... to coordinate in deploying forces and means for search and rescue at sea. Notably, the Provisional Command Center has been established and maintained on duty 24/7 to monitor and direct search and rescue operations.

In the context of complicated weather conditions at sea, the search work is facing many difficulties. However, with the spirit of "leaving no one behind", Gia Lai province and central and local authorities are urgently deploying synchronous measures, taking advantage of every hour and every minute to search for the fishing boat and missing fishermen.

Local authorities and relevant agencies are making every effort to search for the missing fishing boat and fishermen. People across the country, especially the fishing community, are turning to the sea with faith and hope that the 8 fishermen will soon return safely.
