Domestic rice market
On August 21, 2025, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region were generally stable, with only a few varieties having slight increases or decreases of 50-100 VND/kg. The supply of rice at the end of the crop is still low, new transactions are quite slow, and traders are purchasing sparingly.
In An Giang , the amount of rice offered for sale is limited, traders buy little so the price remains stable. In Dong Thap and Tay Ninh, the supply of summer-autumn rice is very limited, transactions are quiet. Can Tho recorded some farmers selling sporadically but at lower prices. In Ca Mau, the situation is also quiet, prices remain unchanged.
Domestic rice prices
Some raw rice varieties decreased slightly. IR 504 rice decreased by 50 VND/kg to 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg; OM 380 rice decreased by 100 VND/kg to 8,200 - 8,300 VND/kg. Other varieties such as OM 5451, OM 18, CL 555 remained stable at around 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.
At traditional markets, retail prices remained stable. Regular rice was at 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg, Huong Lai rice was 22,000 VND/kg, Thai fragrant rice fluctuated between 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg. The highest price was still Nang Nhen rice, listed at 28,000 VND/kg.
Price of sticky rice and by-products
The glutinous rice segment today fluctuated little. Fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice fluctuated at 7,300 - 7,500 VND/kg, dry glutinous rice remained at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.
For by-products, rice husk price decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 1,400 - 1,500 VND/kg. Dry bran is at 6,200 - 6,300 VND/kg, fragrant rice bran is about 7,500 - 7,700 VND/kg.
Export markets
In the international market, Vietnam’s rice export price maintained its leading position. 5% broken rice increased to 399 USD/ton, much higher than that of Thailand (354 USD/ton), India (376 USD/ton) and Pakistan (355 USD/ton). Vietnam’s 25% broken rice was at 371 USD/ton, while 100% broken rice remained at 339 USD/ton.
The Philippines’ decision to temporarily suspend imports of common rice is putting pressure on exporting countries. Thailand is forced to seek new markets and step up trade promotion in the Middle East, South Asia and Northeast Asia.
