Solutions to preserve mountain culture

Presenting a speech at the recent 1st Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee, Mr. Bhling Mia, Secretary of the Tay Giang Commune Party Committee, said that the solutions for the locality to develop sustainably in the coming time. Notably, the task of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, especially the traditional culture of the Co Tu ethnic community.

In particular, focus on restoring, maintaining and organizing traditional festivals, handicrafts, and cultural spaces associated with community tourism development. Maximize the internal strength and role of the people, especially village elders and prestigious people in educating the younger generation, preserving good customs, practices and traditions.

At the same time, encourage creativity, harmoniously combine tradition and modernity, turn Co Tu culture into a spiritual driving force, contribute to strengthening the great solidarity bloc, improve life and create a unique attraction for Tay Giang on the journey of integration and development.

For the mountainous commune of Tra Linh, Ms. Ho Thi Minh Thuan, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, proposed 5 groups of solutions to develop the locality sustainably. Among them is the solution of developing eco-tourism combined with medicinal tourism and preserving indigenous culture.

Accordingly, to develop Tra Linh commune and the western area of Da Nang into a center of the medicinal plant industry with Ngoc Linh ginseng as the main crop, the Party Committee and the government need to synchronously deploy solutions to develop ecotourism associated with medicinal plant tourism and preserve indigenous culture. Developing traditional medicinal plant craft villages not only contributes to creating livelihoods for people but also becomes a highlight to attract tourists...

Support from policies

In the journey of building and developing mountainous communes, cultural factors and indigenous knowledge are considered the key to sustainable development. For many years, the highland people have persistently preserved the culture of their ancestors, and the next generations have taken on the responsibility of “not belonging to anyone alone”.

As confided by Mr. Duong Linh - active in the Co Young Gong Team, the awareness of preserving gong art is not a matter of one or two days but a long journey. Mr. Duong Linh said that fortunately he is still in time for the journey of preserving culture, even though he was 25 when he approached formal gong learning.

Most recently, Resolution No. 02 dated July 29, 2025 of the Da Nang City Party Committee agreed on the policy of twinning between wards and communes in the city to support each other in comprehensive development and best serve, improving the quality of life of people in mountainous areas.

After Resolution No. 02 was issued, the Da Nang City Party Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 389 dated August 25, 2025 on the implementation of the twinning program; assigning 60 communes and wards in the delta region to twinning with 33 communes in mountainous, remote, ethnic minority, border and island areas.

Previously, Hoa Cuong ward and Ngu Hanh Son ward were the two earliest localities to organize the signing ceremony of the minutes of twinning, cooperation and mutual support in many fields with Tra Tan and Avuong communes.

Mr. Mac Nhu Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Avuong commune, shared that for the twinning program, Ngu Hanh Son ward will first organize activities to promote the unique culture of the Co Tu people such as brocade weaving, tang tung da da dance, and open tours from Ngu Hanh Son to Avuong to promote indigenous cultural values and practically support the locality...

Similarly, Son Tra ward organized a twinning relationship with Tra Leng commune, with agreed-upon outstanding activities including organizing a cultural and culinary exchange fair, Tra My cinnamon and Ngoc Linh ginseng festivals; compiling books introducing the beautiful landscapes and tourism potential of each locality.

In early September 2025, the Truth National Political Publishing House coordinated with the People's Committee of Son Tra Ward to launch the photo book "Treasure". The book is an idea initiated by Mr. Hoang Son Tra, Secretary of the Son Tra Ward Party Committee, since the end of 2024. Continuing the twinning program, it is expected that the next book "From Son Tra Sea to Tra Leng Mountain" will be launched in the near future...

It can be seen that the preservation and development of mountainous culture does not only come from the efforts of the highland localities, but also needs support from policies and guidelines to concretize this content, creating room for sustainable development of mountainous areas rich in identity.
