Rice prices today, January 12, 2025, in the Mekong Delta region remained stable. Specifically, according to the update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, there were no fluctuations in both paddy and rice.

Regarding rice, the price of rice fluctuated during the week, some rice products decreased sharply at the beginning of the week and increased slightly and decreased in opposite directions in the middle and the end of the week. According to an update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, raw rice IR 504 fluctuates at 7,900 - 8,100 VND/kg; finished rice IR 504 fluctuates at 9,700 - 9,900 VND/kg.

Regarding by-products, the prices of by-products and various by-products range from 5,750 to 7,300 VND/kg. Currently, the price of fragrant rice bran ranges from 7,100 to 7,300 VND/kg; the price of dry bran ranges from 5,750 to 5,850 VND/kg.

Recorded in localities today, the amount of arrival is low, new transactions are stagnant, some warehouses close early for Tet. In Lap Vo - Vam Cong ( Dong Thap ), the amount of arrival is slow, prices are relatively stable, new transactions are slow. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the amount is slow, warehouses buy slowly, prices of all types are stable.

Sa Dec market canal (Dong Thap), the quantity is still small, the market's rice warehouses are slow to buy new rice. At An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), the quantity is small, customers have stopped buying or bought less.

At retail markets, last week, regular rice decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, Jasmine fragrant rice decreased by 500 VND/kg. Currently, rice prices are unchanged compared to yesterday: Regular rice fluctuates at 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice fluctuates at 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg; Nang Nhen rice has the highest listed price of 28,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice 21,500 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice 22,000 VND/kg; common white rice 17,500 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg; Soc rice fluctuates at 18,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice 21,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice price 22,500 VND/kg

Similarly, for rice, during the week, the price of some fresh rice varieties decreased sharply at the beginning of the week and remained stable in the middle of the week, then turned around slightly in the middle of the weekend with a total decrease of 1,200 VND.

In many localities today, transactions have stagnated. In Dong Thap, new purchase demand is slow, buyers are offering low prices, and new transactions are rare. In Soc Trang, traders are not asking for new purchases because rice prices fluctuated continuously during the week, and new transactions are slow.

In Bac Lieu, rice prices were relatively stable at the weekend, with slow new purchases by traders. In Kien Giang, the amount of Summer-Autumn rice is still low, prices are stagnant, and demand is low. In Long An, supplies are still sporadic, with few new transactions, and prices are stable compared to yesterday.

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices today remained unchanged compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 434 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 409 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 326 USD/ton.

In 2025, rice exports of many countries, including Vietnam, are forecast to face more challenges than in 2024 due to a more abundant world rice supply. Currently, many businesses have begun to offer and sign rice sales contracts for this year. The rice market is forecast to be bustling with many new records in output, trade and consumption.

In 2024, Vietnam's rice exports will make an impressive breakthrough after 35 years since the beginning of rice exports, reaching 9 million tons for the first time, earning nearly 5.8 billion USD, up 10.6% in volume but up 23% in value compared to 2023. Currently, Vietnam ranks 3rd in the world in rice exports after India with 17 million tons and Thailand with 10 million tons.

Of which, the Philippines is currently Vietnam's largest rice consumer market with 3.6 million tons, accounting for 40% of Vietnam's total rice exports and more than 79% of the Philippines' total 3.68 million tons of imported rice.

The next largest markets are Indonesia and Malaysia. Among the 15 largest rice export markets of Vietnam, the export value of rice increased the most in the Malaysian market with an increase of 2.3 times compared to 2023.
